Well, technically, it's not my need, but every day I've got people searching for escorts, plances, guitars, whales, jetpacks, cocks, bandanas, homing missles, anti-idle devices, starships, canoes, soul, umbrellas, cross bows, handcuffs and all other kinds of things on Second411 AND NOT FINDING ANYTHING. Second411 is a search engine, people like search engines, give the people what they want and list the things you have for sale on Second411. It's absolutely free (no royalties, percentages or fees) and you don't have to do any "linking", or fill out a form. Get an ItemBox from the Second411 shop in Takalo secondlife://Takalo/138/72/401/, put your stuff in it and go take a nap. If you have any questions or concerns, send me an IM: Hal9k Andalso

I do actually have an escort umbrella guitar cock, but I had simply not put it out for sale due to perceived lack of demand. How wrong I was! I shall do so immediately!

That's great Ordinal, I didn't mention this in the original post, but it should be steam powered as well. Thanks! Also, I forgot to put the website URL in the original post http://www.second411.com/.

Is the script in the ItemBox open so that we can make sure the items placed in it are not being sent to the ResMods as griefing tools?

Why put your stock in there? Why not just names of items? Could be a ripper

From: Strife Onizuka ... Isnt' this advertising for a service? shouldnt' this go into one of the clasifieds forums? I would think it would go in the Resident-Run Websites forum since it concerns a resident run website.

Concerns
07-13-2006 18:10
I looked to edit the message to move it to Resident run, but didn't see an option to do that (if one of the moderators could do that, I'd be obliged). Also, I don't really view this as a resident run website since about 70% of the searches done are through the in world search HUDs (though I do see how it would probably fit better in there).
As to the question of whether or not this is a way to automagically rip people off, the answer is obviously "No". But, realistically I'm not sure there is a way to prove that. I'm reluctant to open up the scripts as someone could just clone the work I've done to create their own search service. Though, I'm not entirely ruling this out.
It's absolutely NOT necessary to put your actual items in the box if you don't want to. However, I am pulling all of the metadata from the items (permissions, object type, etc.). So, if you are concerned I might be ripping you off, but you would still like to use the system, create a plywood cube, name it appropriately and set the permissions to what your actual items are, put the plywood cubes in the ItemBox and you'll be good to go.
Putting your own items in the box is purely a time saving mechanism for people.
Thanks, Hal9k

Why not just post a script that will read the contents of a box and output the formatted information in chat, and have the user copy/paste that into a notecard in your box?
That way the formatting part won't give away any secrets, and people feel more comfortable knowing what the is in the box with their items.

Interesting Thought
07-14-2006 10:15
I think that's a good idea Kokoro, do you think people would be willing to do that much work to get update their inventory in the service?
Right now, if you want to add a new item to your shop you can just throw the one new item in the box and then it'll update. If I did the script -> chat suggestion every time, they'd need to run through the process again.
In my mind there is some equation where the more hassle the thing is to use the less it will be used.
Something I've really been striving for with this is ease of use, with SLEX or SLBoutique you need to "link" your avatar to their account, manage and massage all your items to have them listed. It seemed like a big advantage to just be able to tell people: drop your items in and that's it.
