They sort of confused me at first but now that I have a website, I realize how handy they are. If you have Second Life installed, they teleport you to a location in Second Life. I'm a bit of a technophobe so i find this all quite amazing

Here's how I used mine: (check out the bottom of this page)

And here's the link to make one of your own:

Teleport?
05-01-2006 20:48
I have used it on my site, and I think it is pretty cool. However, it doesn't so much as teleport you directly as it does map a teleport location on the map inside SL, at least thats what it did when I use it.

Still a cool feature though especially when coming from outside the grid.

BTW Boardman is very cool. I like the CNC's

I use the basic SL links (where "secondlife" replaces "http";), but not the slurls. (SLurls? SLURLs? Whatever they're called.) Mainly because I don't see any point in me using them.

I use SLurl's in my blog as its targetted toward Linux users (where secondlife:// doesn't work). They also allow people to see a location when they're away from their SL computer (like at work).

I use the SL URL on almost every page of my site to keep the page location updated when the SL URL link is opened. My web page is embedded in the SL URL link, so people can navigate it from that location too. The only issue is multiple instances can be opened by repeatedly clicking on the SL URL links within the web site.

Same here.

secondlife://simname/x/y/z gets you where you are gong more directly than a slurl does.

Yes, but thats not always the best option.

When at work, where I don't have SL insalled I ignore secondlife:// links, useless to me. I follow SLurls, bookmark them and then email them to myself at home.

I find making them a pain, but it gives those who do not have SL a little more context than the secondlife:// links give them.

Did you try the SLurl builder? It's pretty easy. You don't even have to have a picture if you don't wnat to. (see below)

Secondlife://
05-23-2006 15:32
I'm actually using secondlife:// links on Second411 - http://www.second411.com

Mainly for the reasons above (faster with direct and SLURL) this could be fixed if the SL Client could pick that the the referral was from a SLUrl and not display the in client map as well.

I hacked a little SLurlPane into 3pointD.com with a secondlife:// link within it, since I hate the two-step process of going to a SLurl page and only then going into SL.

One problem I've been having, though, is that whenever I link to an island -- even if it's a public, open island -- it doesn't seem to work. (And this is whether I link to it in the SLurlPane or just in a blog post.) Has anyone had similar problems with this? Am I doing something terribly, horribly, disastrously wrong???

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

SLURLS build into SLProfiles
05-30-2006 10:10
The reason why I use SLURLS is simply because search engines will believe I have a lot of dead links if you simply use the secondlife:// link --- so yes -- SLURLS have been build into slprofiles wherever was needed.
