From: Lecktor Hannibal I was on an assignment in the South Pacific for 4 months and had taken up scuba diving. The attachment is the local rag and my story starts on the first page and obviously I was the Diver Rescued.  Lecktor, It was interesting reading that and I'm SO glad they found you. I had a similar incident while diving (but with only minor consequences). I was on a boat dive off Catalina Island in S. Calif. and the current there was so bad that my buddy & I were unable to swim back to the dive boat AND it was so bad that the dive boat could not get to us! Really spooky. We inflated our BCD's and just floated for awhile, holding onto the kelp so we would not drift farther out until the dive boat could actually reach us, which it did about an hour later. We were lucky we were near a huge bed of kelp or I don't know how far out we would have drifted. Glad you made it back!

Thank you Rose ! I cannot begin to tell you the thoughts that went through my head that day! At one point I was sure I was going to drown as the riptide over the reef was so strong I couldn't dive beneath it nor keep my head above the waves. I eventually calmed enough to think to drop the weights and inflate the BCD. All was better then.

I'm a diver too...one day we were 75 miles off of deleware diving on a shipwreck 200 feet down. I don't use an octopus and neither do my dive buddies because we were trained by buddy breathing and rebreathing the bcd if necessarry and we always carry pony tanks on any dive over 100 feet. Of course the other divers on the boat made fun of us because they were idiots.
Long story short one of the other dive pairs had a diver have a regulator malfunction and when he got a hold of the other divers octopus he started freaking out and heading for the bottom instead of up. The other diver had no choice but to cut his line. I ended up grabing the guy before he passed me and before I realized it I got dragged down to 250 feet before I could drop his weights and fill his bc. I had to 3 more decompression stops and he got a free helicopter ride to the hospital for a serious chamber ride. Don't think it traumatized me but when I saws I was at 250 feet it scared the shit outa me.
