Muting self

Its come to my attention that speaking the truth isn't allowed by LL so instead of pretending to say something nice or sugar coat the truth I have nothing more to say. Good luck sorting out the truth and the blatient lies that are allowed to be spewed by some. I no longer want anything to do with what LL's idea of "fair and equal" treatment is in these forums. I know this comes as a great suprize as I have always supported LL 110% BUT due to certain events lately I am losing that support pretty quickly. That is not to say that I dont like certain Lindens no no no I love them bunches. I don't however agree with the business plan of LL and how they go about trying to quiet voices and push their plan threw.

I will be in world of course cus I love to build and I will continue to be until its just not fun anymore see you on the flip side.

Since when have things been fair and equal? If they were griefers would actually get banned, and folks would know why they were suspended. Pfft , Cat.

I don't know what particular issue this is over, if its even any one thing, but just remember that no matter how many times people insult you, flame you, tell you to stfu and go away, you have a right to say your piece. Don't stop because you have a dissenting opinion and the herd don't like it. Good on ya for having the balls to speak up.

And I totally agree with you that the Lindens appear to have zero consistency in their dealings with people, both here on the forums and in world. They clearly play favorites, and there are clearly issues that they're just going to sit and turn a blind eye to forever because it doesnt suit their agenda. They listen when it suits them to listen.

My opinion is very much the same as yours - when it stops becoming fun, I'll stop logging in. Until then, I really don't care what any one else thinks of me or my opinions, and I'll keep right on saying them.

But right now I'll sit back and wait for the 'why dont you leave then' brigade, followed by the 'Lindens are God' suckup crew, and a smattering of people to come insult me, tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about and that present their own opinion as fact while mine is bullshit. Yup. It's a new day on the forums!

PS - Catherine, self-mute-ilation is not the way to go. The only way to counteract lies is with the truth. If people lie often enough unchallenged, it has the weight of the truth. You have always had one of the most interesting voices in SL, even when directed firmly at me lol. Don't let anyone stop you from speaking out.

Self-censorship is not the right answer. While we (the part of the SL community that actually visits the forums ) might have our disagreements once in a while, it is good that we voice our opinions. By doing so we might actually inspire those that feel the same way to come forward and speak their minds as well. Many people are afraid to do so out of fear of the backlash, but if at least one person steps forward, it gives the rest of us courage to do so as well.

PS. Forgive me if my thoughts aren't that coherrent... it's 4:43 am over here and I need to go sleep. That's what I get for reading the forums before bedtime.

Thanks Cris! I know! I've noticed that myself. Even when I present an argument back, no one wants to pick it apart and tell me I'm full of shit any more and tell me WHY I'm full of shit. It seems I just am *shrug*. And also I'm a Linden approved target for personal attacks, too! This is partly what Cat is talking about, I imagine. The hypocrisy of it all.

Truth be told there is one person in the forums who takes every oppertunity to insult and beliettle me. I file the right reports, nothing is done. This person happens to own a crap load of land. This person states in an open forum something to the affect that I take drugs. Again nothing is done so I fire back, I was at my wits end with this type of behavior being over looked week after week, post after post. What do I get? A nasty letter from LL with a threat to ban me. Did they not get every single report? Or did they just not give a damn?

I dont much see the point in allowing this jerk offs to continue to treat ppl so terriably over a different opinion. Its just an opinion but when allowed to start spewing garbage and out and out lies. That is when I start thinking about self preservation.

If this is how things are done here. I think its not only sad, its a sick state of affairs.

Its not just me, I see it happening all the time. Some have an agenda and anyone who speaks out against said agenda has to take on a group of ppl not one person. That gang land mentality is what happens in the ghetto, but honestly not in my world.

If LL wants to run a ghetto forum more power to them, but for ppl like me who have worked our entire lives for what is ours; we don't put up with ghetto mentality.

Kris is exactly right that is how it is, and I for one am sick to death of LL allowing it to continue.

The saddest thing about all this is those of us with the strongest opinions have supported LL 110% from day one.

While I have not had the forum experience you have had, the fact that racial slurs and threats of coming to my home don't even seem to result in a suspension makes me even more annoyed when Jeska or Haney pops up in a thread and takes a whack at it. Now hurry up and ban Kris for saying pond scum. I did at least have one small consolation today. One of the people I admire the most in SL told me, in regards to a person that we both mutually revile, that they are the only person they have muted in the forums because they can't stand to read a thing thing this person says. Hollow comfort, but I am glad other people can at least see the same thing.

Consistency seems to be the achilles heel in here.

Cat, don't let 'em get to you. I find it interesting that the folks who claim they stand on higher moral ground are usually the ones to watch out for.

Catherine, join the club, you arent alone LL not only has warned me about forum behavior (when i was defending myself), they also suspended me for revealing some RL info regarding the sex of a certain hateful person in SL who had attacked me relentlessly until they were suspended 4 times (which didnt stop the attacking). And yet when I finally defended myself by revealing this person was a man, i was suspended. But yet it was ok that this person had posted their claim that i was a middle aged african-american working as a team to decieve people in SL.

LL chooses to support and defend who they wish arbitrarily. It would be far better if they outsourced the job of Liason, and removed their personal touch from the world.

It seems rather oxymoronic for LL to push SL as a medium for virtual businesses while at the same time playing favorites with your competition.

I think your voice is a very valuable one, and one I would hate to be muted. You already know that I admire the way you foresaw trends in sl that the rest of us were blind to.

But on the other hand, I am very much opposed to forum censorship. I really believe that the only things that should not be allowed on these forums are hate speech and anything illegal.

I think people should have the right (not the moral right, but the right as posters) to attack anybody in an unfair way, but equally we should have the right to a robust rebuttal.

Please don't be intimidated and allow yourself to be silenced. I haven't seen the thread in question, but I have found from experience that those who attack most unfairly are the ones who look bad, and whose reputation suffers. Things have a tendency to even out.

So please keep posting!

Your posts are some of my favorites actually. Ironically, the only thing we have ever been at odds over was Catherine lol.

Cat - its fun to see you inworld so I don't have a problem with that. I think that these forums do have a way of bringing out negativity and feelings of unresolve. At least when you're nose to the 'primstone' your creative juices are flowing and not the other kind. I think its hard to not get caught up in these dramas...and I also think its a fine survival skill to avoid them too. I respect what you have decided and hopefully will visit you in Tinsel Town soon!
