So many kind words, thankyou all. I shall certainly not be giving up and indeed have a number of new builds in the works that will no doubt end up being ripped off too. Lynn: There are a number of reasons why I have left my items as Transferable. Buying as gifts, allowing them to be handed on to others that people may meet etc. I resent the idea that I must limit their use for the majority, because of a minority - but you make a good point. I have tried having them as No Copy but newbies really do need to have this so that they can have a few 'goes' at placement. And besides, last time I checked - because they are Moddable, people can simply Unlink all, Shift-Copy and Relink again and the permission restrictions are lost. I will have to check to see if that has been fixed or not. Fundamentally put, in a world where the currency is now worth real life money, the permissions system simply isn't good enough to protect all business models. I can only hope it gets resolved very soon. Marius: IM me inworld and I can show/give you them all. Jai

i have to agree with kris and lynn. if i could make stuff copy transfer & no sell, i'd do that. until then, everything will be copy only.
i don't think it flies in the face of gnu philosophy to make items copy mod & no transer/sell. people can still rez copies, take them apart and change the textures. everybody will just have to go to the store and buy their own.

*hugs Jai* You are a sweetheart and do so much for so many, and so many *really* appretiate you! Don't let the turkey's get you down! I do hope LL hurries and puts in the feature to have transfer and resell as seperate options. It is another feature that boggles me on why it has not been added yet. To me it almost qualifies as a bug. Especially since you *must* choose either copy/no transfer, or no copy/transfer or copy/transfer, but not no copy/no transfer. Makes my head spin!

How do you mistakenly take something already for sale for $1 and resell it for $100?? Umm..you didn't realize you bought it for $1? You didn't realize that it continued to be for sale for $1?? You didn't realize you were selling it for 100x that amount?
Hmm....so..where was the mistake?? Oh..I get it..getting caught ripping people off was the mistake.
Jai - you are, and have always been, wonderful! I love your builds and am amazed at your generousity. You have always been very helpful and giving. I send alot of newbs to the GNU store as a first stop. The efforts of all those involved with it are terrific! Please don't let the scammers get you down. For every person that does something like this, there are hundreds of others that are amazed and delighted by the generosity and skill you display.

I'd like a no resell option too, but practically how would it work? People can always put it in a box and resell it that way. Yes, the person buying it could see the permission afterwards, but that might be hard to explain. Maybe if it is no resell it can't be part of another object or scripted by other objects?

If it's flagged as no resell and no copy then even if they sold it by another means they could only do it once.]
Blaze, stop reselling free items. It's the very definition of lameness. Maybe if you start showing up an a lot of ban lists you'll start getting the message.

From: someone Originally posted by Azrazael Maracas well...I had someone threatening to abuse report me the other day.....cuz I gave them something for free......was supposedly harassing them...If that keeps up....k no more freebies .... Azrazael this happened to me too recently. I made up a little flower & landscaping box for newbies and I generally hand them out where I see someone has gotten their 512 and is beginning to build. (I fly around a lot looking at stuff). I've decided maybe this may not be the best way to do this. Jai - I have been meaning to ask, but did not know who to ask, I would like to place my flower & landscaping box somewhere that Newbies go, would there be room for it at GNU? The items in it however are copy/mod OK - no transfer. I figure that if they want to give it away, they can give someone the land mark to where they picked it up themselves. But I do agree that they need to be able to make multiple copies. The ability to set copy/mod/transfer and NO SELL would be ideal. Rose

If it is just no copy they can only resell it once also. I thought the discussion was about copyable transferrable items.

I think with free items there's no point making them copy enabled. If they want more than one they can just take as many as they need. They're free after all.

Of course we can place it in the gnu store, however you would need to either join the gnu group or pass to me to place it - as I am being forced to set the Group Land controls and it would get zapped if not set to group. For my part, I had it in my head that this was a way that I could help new players become established, allow them to learn how quality items are made by pulling them apart and allow them to pass these items to others as free gifts and so on.. omething good.
---- Jai Jai - don't let it get you down. Sure grumpy happens - but your spirit is yours - none can take it! *Hugs*

Shout me inworld...!Jai I'll IM you inworld tonight - I have put a few things out at the Free Bazar too. One thing I should have mentioned - the GNU store was the second place that I went to my first day in SL. I still have many of the items that I bought there decorating my SL home. The GNU store probably kept me from being ripped off by all the people who were at the time taking free things from the Linden Free Bazar and re-selling them with 100% mark-ups to unsuspecting newbies like myself. (I was unaware of the Free Bazar at the time). I found GNU because someone told me about it at the Welcome Gate. So... consider me another former innocent newbie who greatly appreciated your generosity and the generosity of all those who contributed free things to SL. Rose

I think that this demonstrates, once again, that we need better tools to manage this.
People who have created free goods for the benefit of the community have had to cover thier asses again and again to spell it out for those who try to play right up to the line.
It's becoming such a downer that I wouldn't be surprised if people stopped making free content completely.
Lindens: please work on getting better controls in place for this!

Fortunately there are a great many of us who know GNU products and appreciate what you are doing so that when we run across anyone trying to sell your items we can speak up...I've done it several times concerning textures and the ever famous Siggy hottub. Don't let the few who do this get you down...they won't be around long because they obviously can't understand a creative enviornment. There are far too many people who do appreciate you and what you do.

Jai. As a newbie, I frequently visited the dollar store. It was so great to be able to afford a home, clothes, furniture, etc, so that I could spend time getting familiar with the game. I hope you keep up the wonderful work. (In fact, I still visit from time to time to see what's new I, for one, appreciate all that you and the other gnu vendors have done for SL

From: someone Originally posted by Talen Morgan I've done it several times concerning textures and the ever famous Siggy hottub. I remember when someone wanted to buy some land off me and didn't have quite enough for the price. However, she really wanted it badly, so she offered to give me a "really great, scripted hot tub" as part of the deal. At the time, I had not come across Siggy's hot tub, and so I was happy to do that for her (I forget how much money I knocked off the price for it). It was only a few days later I realized that my new hot tub was identical to others around that were free to copy... ...which was lucky, because by that time I had totally borked up the water level and placement wrt the shell!
