well I didn't lose as much as the guesstimate account history reported that I'd lose. But I paid out the wahzoo for land.

My land tax, I own one plot, is $1542 according to Edit Land.

I just paid -$4348 for "Land Maintenance"!!
My land tax is $1542 an I paid $4348! wtf...

Given in the first week of 1.1 I released and claimed bits of land here and there (as I moved from teal to blue). But I never owned much more land than I have currently at any one time.

My guess is that land, on claiming, is immediately calculated at a massive tax hit. You claim/release, you still pay a bundle for your blunders with Edit Land (or attempts at joining land, etc).

Anywho, my total loss was survivable but WAY above what I paid in 1.0 and with about the same total land mass and less prims active now.

Loss: -$1782

I found summary to be totally off but details to look about spot on.. well.. maybe. I had 5.3k, was supposedly taxed 7k with around 2k in stipend but now i'm on 4.3k.

So who knows!

I based my loss (above) off details as well. The guesstimates are definitely hosed, All my "current" values are $0 (I understand these take a little time to collect perhaps, but I'd think after tax day they'd be set initially to whatever values are current!), and under the estimated category my land tax is $0, the others appear to be working (they have values, not that I trust any of them).

Got hit hard with taxes tonight.
Before version 1.1 always broke even or lost a few hundred.
Sales of a few items would cover this.
Lost almost 5000 with the new version and a projected loss of 7000 next tax day... Biggest change that I can see is bonus dropped by more than half.

I have closed the Spook House and deleted many objects in protest.

Please feel free to pick up a free tax rocket there if you are so inclined.

Hoping this is a bug - if not... you will be seeing less Sinatra made items and builds -- haha - I know this may be a good thing to some of you :-)

Revolutionary,

Hi All,

We'll look at this first thing this morning.

There have been no changes in 1.1 in the amount of taxes you will be charged for either land or objects. So if those amounts are changing there is a bug.

In the event there is something wrong, don't worry, we'll fix the amounts for those affected.

Glad you mention this, Philip. The bonus I got paid was only half of what it said I would get yesterday. With the help of half a dozen accountants, I am able to manage taxes based on stipend/bonus and try and keep that in line. Cutting that in half overnight must be a bug (I hope!)

Secondly, with all the confusion about what date it is today (PST date versus GMT date), there's no way anyone can resposibly deal with taxes. Can we safely take out our inventory at any time, or do we run a risk of paying an incredible amount of tax when misplacing a high-prim count item at 300 m up in the sky at the wrong moment? How is tax calculated now and more importantly, when ?

I'm just adding my misery to the foray:

Tuesday Oct 28, 2003

Object Create/Claim -30
Object Maintenance -1010
Property Maintenance -3120
Light Maintenance -273
Group Dividend 384
Object Delete 430
Stipend 1000
Rating Bonus 2140

Total -479

I really dont own that much land.... I was overtaxed about $2340.

I thought that the taxes were going to be assessed on the weekly *average* of your land, objects, etc. It was to discourage the banking of objects on the eve of tax day.

Actually I bought two large peices of land last week and released them the day after I'd bought them.

Was debating on building something creative but decided to wait until after the new tax day so I'd know where I stood. Possibly since I kept them for almost a full 24 hours this counted seriously against my stipend.

Averages can be calculated in a million ways. Until we know what and how we are taxed, it might as well be turned into a raffle.

Summary for this week, beginning on 10/28/2003
Your next stipend/tax day is 11/4/2003

Balance $ -4788

YAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH!!!

I deeded some land to my group, I wonder if that's got anything to do with it. I was #13 on the leader boards for land owned yesterday, which is nuts.

I don't own enough for my numbers to be as mind-blowing as everyone else's here, but they're still acting funny. Today I was charged and got paid about what it had estimated, but the projection for next week is $400 in taxes(up from $120 or so this week) and a $412 stipend. Not sure if that's connected to the current issue. Also, I've spoken with people who were not paid or charged at all, or were paid and charged exactly the same amount despite very different predictions.

For me, it looks like I'm going to remain in stasis forever.

I've got 0 negs, my stipend was 577, my taxes were 577, next month's estimated stipend is 577, and nex taxes .. yup. 577.

Don't know whats up there. My total L$ didn't change one $ as of today. Even though I did get a stipend and was taxed.

Canceled itself out.

Dono what's going on.

I don't believe it's related to deeding, but defintely related to land (and possible other categories, sinatra got nailed for HUGE light taxes).

I was #14 on most land owned (incorrectly rated), right under you Huns. I own one plot of land at around $1500 weekly taxes. I was taxed $4348 for "Land Maintenance". I've never deeded land to a group.

Over the last month I've been cash positive, making $200-$400 a week over what I was paying in taxes. Now all of a sudden I'm getting reamed and steamed.

I've been jetting around at a high rate of speed for so long that the game seems bland and empty if I can't do it. Well I made the mistake of taking my favorite attachment into inventory, and since I'm FIVE GRAND IN THE HOLE, I can't rez it...

I am certain this is a bug. I just better get refunded the lion's share of that #13-on-the-land-board tax.

If not, well... if I come back here next week and LL decides not to do anything and I wind up another five grand in the hole, it's very likely I will take an extended and possibly permanent vacation from SL. I'm not willing to wait for $5,000 in debt to erode $200 per week. At that rate it'll probably be April '04 or something before I had even $0.

It's funny - I read the email notice on taxes and my understand was there would be a tax BREAK this week, not "break us with taxes". Instead, it looks like people got a "break" from receiving their stipends.

Since there is so much chaos, I vote to make it so! Grant everyone tax relief for the transition week, and pick it up on next Tuesday starting with straight numbers.

I was only chargered $26 in land taxes. The leader board says I have 64 square meters. I have over 5k sm of land.
Both my taxes and stipend went DOWN. Doesn't do me any good tho....still too many taxes to get any part of my bonus. Sigh, damned stipend cap.

Tax on my land (what it says when i choose "edit Land";):
3122

Amount taxed on land maintenece last night:
6297

Top that off with a drop of more than 1/2 on bonus.

Oh well SL will still be fun as an animated chat room.
