Anyway, the purpose of this post was to open some dialogue on what Content creators plan to do, or what their suggestions are to LL to improve the new user experience, increase the expectation of pay to enjoy, and promote the SL as a business platform ideal.

What makes AOL an ideal business platform these days: nothing. What makes City of Heroes an ideal platform for business: nothing. What makes the web an ideal business platform: decentralization, synergy, open standards, and a low barrier or entry.

Right now, Second Life has none of these things. There is absolutely no decentralization; the teen grid shares our asset server and is hosted at the same colo. There is no synergy; with the exception of being able to upload four or five kinds of files, you cannot use Second Life with anything outside of Second Life. There are no open standards in Second Life that come anywhere close to HTTP, HTML, RSS, or even Telnet. The cost, these days, for a business to setup shop, with the freedom and commercial solitude of a domain name, is $1250 and $195 a month; that's a pretty high barrier for someone looking for an online store, when compared to setting up a web site and using something like QTVR for 3D modeling.

Things like Havoc 3 and the interface are excellent points, but they're problems that could have specialized and ideal solutions for varying business types. They are problems that the web had already solved for varying business types, very cheaply.
