Looking under Events for classes:

Creating Objects - look for Building 101
Land Ownership - look for Land Ownership 101
Uploading - look for Textures 101

(Note - you cannot upload objects, only textures (as image files), sounds (as WAVs) and animations (as .bvh files from Poser))

I will be scheduling Land Ownership 101 some time mid-week this week.

It was a delight to meet you last night at the wedding reception, Wiggles!

Thanks so much for the info.

I've bought so many games lately and they have all fallen flat as far as entertainment go, but this one seems like it will satisfy my creative and social desires. :P

Oh, Wiggles - you have no idea! If after one night you are already enthused about owning land and creating objects, you are already lost! Those other games will be gathering dust in your CD holder for years to come....

Please beware people like FlipperPA. He is one of the few users allowed from Bellvue Hospital for the criminally insane that has net-access. Not only will he will shout all kinds of unintelligeble gibberish at you, he will try to indoctrinate you into the cult of 63 - these are people who love cetaceans and believe that if they have a hole drilled in their back they will be able to swim with these ocean mammals until the whales who control the comet Hale Bop return to pick them up.

This guy is very dangerous.

Please beware of Briana. She will try to overwhelm you with kindness and generosity. She has been known to attempt such dangerous acts as offering free land to the tier-less, so that they can have homes. It is even rumored that she doesn't make a profit on any of her endeavors! It is frightening that such a good-natured person is allowed to be in close proximity to new residents.

Briana, don't try to white wash Flippers reputation with your understatements. His criminal mind is a festering sepsis and a scourge on the information superhighway. Oh sure, he's cool to hang out with. And he wouldn't hurt a fly. And he is very helpful. And... ok wait. what was I talking about now? I think it's time for a nap.

Welcome aboard Wiggle.

Wiggle Biggles, your name makes me giggle :D

Were you at one of my SL Basics this week? I think maybe?

If not, use Find and the People tab to do a search for me - you don't have to type the whole thing (wouldn't want you to get tendonitis :p ) so, just a few letters will find me.

IM me and let me know when a good time and day to do a Basics class would be for you, or, if you want, let me know when a good time to work with you one on one would be.

If I did see you at a Basics. . . the name sounds familiar, but it IS one of those types of names, don't hesitate to come to another. They are question driven, so you can ask about any specifics you might want.

Like others mentioned, you can look for classes for the for specific info on building and such, or once again, if you want, I wouldn't mind giving you some personal instruction.

If you're interested in scripting, and absolutely awesome source of info is www.badgeometry.com

Anyway, welcome to SL :D Sorry if I didn't remember meeting you specifically - I did a Basics class nearly every day this week.

I just logged in last night. Saw the free trial on mmorpg.com in an hour of desperate boredom and finally said "WTH"

Lemme get a couple things straight. If I want to pay the monthly fee I get 512m2 of land for 512 L$. Do I get more money to actually get some money with my subscription?

Each month I get charged an extra 5 real $ if I wanted another 512m2 which I also have to buy, but am not guaranteed this land or a price for it? So, for 1024 m2 I pay 14.99 a month right?

Going home now.

Correct Wiggle Biggles. . .

As a Premium member, you'll get a L$500 stipend every Tuesday, instead of the normal L$50 given to Basic members.

I would highly recommend going the Premium account route.

Now, if you want, you could just have a Basic account. As I said, this would mean your weekly stipend would only be L$50, but you would be able to get the 1,024 land tier for $8

You don't have to be Premium to own land, you could just pay for the land tier.

You get your starter plot 512m for L$512 by searching the map for New Land. This is guaranteed to you as someone who has never had land before.

Once you decide to move up to 1,024 or whatever, you might consider selling your 512m plot, and buying a single, bigger plot somewhere else.

I'd recommend doing what you can to get that land in auctions, as resellers will generally have their land marked up. . .

And, if you're looking around, and you see lots and lots of plots that are owned by one group, I would avoid these if you can. If you are going to buy from another player, I'd recommend looking around and finding someone who isn't necessarily in the real estate business and just has a plot they want to get rid of.

Finally, if you do want to go with a real estate person, look for something belonging to Lisse Livingston or Schwanson Schlegel. They're both ethical and fair land traders. I'm not certain what they're real estate groups would be.

Basically, you can tell if something is owned by a reseller if it is owned by a group, rather than an individual.

Finally, for selling your original plot, I would recommend one of the two people I mentioned, as they'll give you a fair price :)

DON'T let anyone pressure you into selling your starter plot.

Thanks for tips.

I may look into one of your classes after I get a chance to figure out what I need to know and what I already know. I played a game very similar to this one before called alpha world or something like that.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome also.

Sorry to pull this off topic but I thought this was changed for new users coming in a few months ago... I thought maybe I was told wrong but the land faq says "To own land you must sign up for the $9.95 per month Premium membership"

Regardless.. welcome to the neighborhood Wiggle :)

Correct. According to Haney, this "unintentional loophole" was closed around June or July. Basic accounts who started to pay land tiers before then are grandfathered in, but since that date, upgrading to Premium is required for any type of land ownership.
