There is, actually. However, you won't find a lot of that on the surface - most content creators in Second Life "for the sake of creating" are typically hermits and reclusive. The lump sum of Second Life is commercialism, and that's due to a large part to it mirroring present-day America and other countries. I'm tempted to call "troll," but because this is a commonly-held belief that's (kinda) valid, I'm adding my $0.02.

Why are you still here? If this is the fearsome outcome of Second Life after Philip finishes stuffing money in his ear, why are you still here? Amazon.com doesn't stop me from enjoying the free content on the web.. Free games, Free entertainment, Free information. The commercialization of Second Life can only bring more funding to developemnt of the platform. You won't be forced into Amazon Shopping Land... You will go there because it's got all the products you want at low low prices... I know that for myself, I'll be developing my own space in Second Life for my own enjoyment and that of others who are interested in the same things I am... What is the draw of Second Shopping Network? Who would want to be a member of a 3d mail order catalogue? The fact is, users will draw companies to SL because they see a market they can fill. Without users what good is Second Shopping Network?
