Do you pay attention to people's ratings?

I don't think I've ever consciously looked at someone's ratings.

fortunately people who will annoy me stand out like a sore thumb.

Ratings are unreliable under both systems.

When ratings were cheap, players gave them out indiscriminately, which made them essentially worthless.

Ratings are just as unreliable now. Players who truly merit ratings may not get rated as much simply because it's more than what most other players are willing to spend.

Personally, I'd vote to trashcan the entire rating system.

nope! i dont like ratings because you can be attacked that way one of my friends got neg rated 10 times by random people she didnt do anything so i get to know the person and then judge them

I don't pay attention to ratings because when I joined SL people would hand out triple positives like candy. I was on the top of the weekly building list my first week and I had yet to rez a cube. I figured it was the way it was and yeah I went to a few ratings parties.

We were always encouraged to rate each other (positively) at the noobie show and tells if we liked what people were showing.

I'm gonna attach a picture of my ratings from a couple of months back so you can an idea of what I mean.

However if after I've taking someone at face value and I start to feel a bit squirrelly about them, I'll check out the negatives GIVEN.

But I DO read profiles in general if I meet someone and I wanna know a lil bit more about them. Of course I pop profiles up left and right when I'm "on duty" at the WA to check on how new someone is and be able to help them accordingly.

I do look at rating, but only because they (used to) give me a sense of how old and active an AVI was. It's not true anymore with the new rating rates and for people who arrived after March 2005, but obviously a year old AVI that has only a few ratings is probably an alt, not a main AVI.

Alas that isn't true anymore looking at newer people, as rating are so seldom given anymore. It really is too bad, because it was a dead giveaway for alts, and not one easy to "game".

Part of the thread moved to "are you looking at profiles" and I'm definitely am. What people are willing to share with you about who they are and what they are looking for in SL is important. I find it spiteful and arrogant to negect it. We can choose who we are here, how preposterous it is for some to choose to ignore it!

I look at lots of profiles, simply because I'm overly curious. But I do not take ratings into affect *unless* that person has substantially more neg ratings than positive. But if someone has lots of negatives, I try not to let that cloud my thoughts. People 'gang-neg-rate' on SL. If someone does something wrong to another person, that other person will grab all of his friends and tell them to neg rate.

I often look at profiles, because it tells you things about the player--ratings happen to be in profiles, so yeah. It's a way to see if you have something major in common with someone.

Of course I can fully understand and interpret what those ratings mean, so I don't see the harm in looking at it. I doubt anybody negatively "judges" someone based solely on ratings, unless they have a very bad positive/negative ratio (but usually there IS a reason for that).
