Brilliant idea but for the fact that transfer of accounts is against the rules so you'd be buying a perma-banned account.
How much would you like to offer? |

Here are the Terms of Service. You might find sections 2.2 and 2.4 interesting.

Here are the Terms of Service. You might find sections 2.2 and 2.4 interesting. thats the best you can find? Ha. I thought you actually might have something. My main question is why the TOS url keeps moving, an announcement forum post links to a url that no longer works, where did you find it linked from? |

Note that a "sold" account still has all of the original user's information tied to it. That includes credit card number, name, and address. Say Trifen here decides to teir up the account after buying it (as I understand it, these lifetime accounts come with a land limit). Guess who pays?

My father, Dr Armstrong Caba from Ivory Coast, had bought me a lifetime account a week before he passed out, and I fear it could fall into the hands of the local government. Can you, a fiable and God-fearing citizen of another country, help me securing it out of the country ?

2.2 says that the information about the person behind the account has to be accurate. That doesn't mean that it can't change.
2.4 says that you are responsible for any harm that comes about by you giving out your password. The TOS does not explicitly, or even implicitly, suggest that you cannot give someone your Lifetime Membership. _____________________

Obviously Lex that information could and would be changed after purchase. Clearly if you 'buy' the account you wouldn't impersonate that person but rather assume the account and reset its personal information. After reading through the (new?) TOS i still don't see any real problems with this at all if there are any willing sellers out there. Sydney, negrating just lacks creativity don't you think? Chance of a lifetime here! Don't miss out! =) |

Actually, if memory serves me correctly, someone once tried to sell his account to other players. The Lindens said that was NOT permitted. Sorry!

Sydney, negrating just lacks creativity don't you think? Have you never heard of a rating war? people have sold their ratings before, people use alt accounts to massivly rate aswell. It may not be orginal, but it's surely a concern. And I can't think of what other purpose buying off someone's account would have. I mean, come on, the price of the L is falling in GOM, so if it's all about stipen, then it's not a great investment on your part, that is depending on how high the seller goes. And you never answered my orginal question. What could you possibly want accounts for? If i wanted to sell to you, my name that ppl are familar with, it's not unreasonable to ask what your gonna do with it. |

ok well, its not at all about negative ratings or stipends. A lifetime account has no monthly fees or base tier, which means you can live comfortably on a 4096 plot (not the size of a shoe) and never pay again after your initial investment. To me that alone is worth it even without stipends and ratings entirely.

Lifetime accounts have paid-up tier in perpetuity -- don't they? Isn't the amount something like 4096? This could account for the zeal in buying them up? Or?

Sure. I'll sell you my lifetime account for $10,000.
That way I can buy a laptop that'll play SL, and dump an AV I didn't intend to keep this long anyway. Or, if it's just a scheme to buy land, I'll do what you want but keep my AV. |

Accounts can be sold, have been sold...
01-08-2005 12:20
That section of the TOS does not reference selling an account at all.
As far as credit information goes, that can be changed before you pass off the account. it's done all the time people. Know what your talking about before you post. And FYI, I may be selling off Crow in the next month or two, I'll get in touch when I do. Crow _____________________

While LL would like to believe that others are not selling their lifetime accounts (the kind with the land allocations) just because they say it's against the rules (or that we aren't allowed), how would they know if someone did? As has been mentioned before, a person could just buy the account through ebay or through other means and change their credit card info afterwards. If they really would like to stop the selling of the lifetime accounts maybe they could offer the lifetime memberships again and give us the opportunity to buy them within the TOS (or their rules).
![]() As for why someone would want the account even if it has the other player's ratings: a person could buy the account just to be able to own the land without paying monthly fees and then create another account (a basic $9.95 one-time fee account) and play with that account, while still building/creating on the land. _____________________

Obviously Lex that information could and would be changed after purchase. If we're allowed to sell our accounts, and I don't think we are, the seller is taking a big risk when they transfer it to the buyer. The seller's credit card number and real name will be attached to that account when the buyer logs in. They'd be trusting the buyer to change the credit card number after the fact. But what if the buyer doesn't change the CC #, then buys a whole whack of land on the seller's card? While you *might* be able to untangle the mess with your CC company and LL, is it worth the risk? _____________________
