You guys are all way too cool. I just wanted to note that I also do custom skins ( I even did one for Torrid ) and am available to do everything from headless skins, custom makeup, custom skintones, hair removal, tattoos, you name it. My modding prices are very reasonable ( ask Willow ) And I've got a long line of happy customers behind me. So if you don't see something you want, I can make it for you.
Thank for the props!!
They make me happy in my simulated pants.

From: ZsuZsanna Raven It puts the lotion on the skin... You know... I really wish we could come up with a different name for skins as ZsuZsanna's comment is exactly what goes through my mind when anybody says things like "Let me take this skin off" or "I love your skin, can I have it?". EEP! But ya. I think Chip's skins are the top of my list.

Sezmra Svarog makes my favorite skins in Secondlife. I think she does custom makeup on occasion and it is very reasonable. (150 for a custom makeup if you already own one of her skins) She has demos available at her store in Kueka and if you like them I would suggest you ask her about a custom. Her skins are very affordable, the best quality at the best prices I think. But I like her style more than I do realistic or skins taken or heavily based from Poser skin files. Her work is very original and it is refreshing.
I would also suggest Mimi Coral's skins if you're looking for a bit more realism - I believe she charges very little if any for modifications to her skins. They are really cute and sexy.
Starley Thereian's are great as well and probably the best/most attractive realistic ones, but she doesn't do customs and they are very expensive.
I have tried all the ones named in this thread that offer demos, but the three I suggest are the only ones that remotely appealed to me. That is my opinion of course and I see I am in the minority so my opinion probably will not be the most significant. I am really critical of choosing skins since they cost so much I scrutinize them more than anything else. If they are derived heavily from Renderocity/poser files that does make a difference, though it obviously does not to others. I only have these to suggest, since they are really the only ones I would actually (and have) pay for. As a suggestion, never buy skins from people who do not offer demos! It's very likely the skin will not look the same or even similar as it does on the advertised model.

I sat here and tried to think of which skin maker I like the best my answer came down to another question:
What are you looking for?
Chip does GREAT work in making more realistic skins. I love the hairy skins as I am like a freaking ape in RL.
En Nomine by Munchflower Zaius is wonderful for that fantasy/sci-fi and also goth look and makes a wide variety from plain to pre-tattoed skins that look great. Personally right now I am wearing one if memory serves me right.
Second Skin by Namssor Daguerre is a good one that offers a wide variety in a small package sort to speak.
When I first entered the game these three made me drool with thier looks, creativity, inspiration (in general thought), and selection. There are many out there though that have sparked interest by I have yet to make it to thier shops to see what they have.
Now I don't know much about the makeup and such

I wear Munch's skin designs whenever I feel like changing out of my own self-painted skin. I have several because they be so affordable and purdy. And I LOOOOOVE Chip's Blue Chrome skin. It's so gorgeous, I just walk around naked in it. It's bluuue AND shiiiiinny.

Many thanks to the mentions in this thread, knowing someone enjoys what I've thrown out into the world of Second Life always makes my day. There are many, many great skinners( ) out there. Those who have said that that it's really all about what you're looking for, are right. It's great that there are such diverse skin options for SL's residents. Much like Ryntha, I tend to prefer less realistic looking skins, and tend to drift towards softness. That's why I'd recommend Ryntha, herself, Munch, and Starley. Once again, it is about what floats each and every avatar's boat. Keep on skinnin'!

Second Skins is my top choice. In fact the only one I wear I love them because they are the ones I have found to have the most flexibility. I can still wear my favorite tattoos, they are very real looking and I still have the ability to adjust the skin tone with them, so I can be tan or pale or whatever shade in between! I have gotten lots of compliments on it and have referred several people. Plus I like knowing that because I can adjust it to look the way I want, I don't look like everyone else that has bought a second skin. P.S. You can also wear any makeip with this skin, regardless of who made it.

Wow thanks for the compliments haha. My skin is a passport skin by Starley and the makeup is something I did. I did the eyes and the lips I adapted from a texture Neph gave me long ago. I don't sell the makeup haha but I've had alot of people ask me for it. I love Starley's passport skins, it's the most flattering/natural skin I've worn, especially the shading and details. All the people named in the thread so far do great skins! It just all depends on what you like and what you feel flatters your avatar shape .

When you get tired of boring human skin, there are always my animal skins. Heh, nothing like a little shameless self promotion every now and then
