I explored around SL during my search for land. As I came across all the themed sims it made me wonder what kind of theme would I have if given my own themed sim. So I ask you as well... If you had your own themed sim, what theme would you have? Personally I would make some sort of Toontown: In the water you would see Spongebob's pineapple house and the rest of Bikini Bottom; there would be seasonal toon parcels (e.g. Halloween Town in October just like The Nightmare Before Christmas), and the rest of the sim can resemble other toons or even the actual Toontown from the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

I'd love to do some sort of Haunted Sim, with nods to all the classic horror flicks - a misty heather moor, a Transylvanian castle, a broken down cabin in the woods, and of course several grave yards! Something with lots of scripted interactions and a generally eerie, black and white feel to it.

i would use the entire sim to build one massive build plus its grounds. probably a massive gothic castle or cathedral. it would probably take some 6 months to completely finish off and i could see it taking 100,000 prims. well obviously this isnt possible in SL at the moment but its what i'd love to do

Oooh, I like the Araibian Nights idea...
But I'd have to go with a Deco Noir themed community. Ya know, Max Payne style.

An Alice in Wonderland, or Wizard of Oz sim would be cool. Now if i could just script apple throwing trees and flying monkeys.

I also like the arabian nights idea. If i had to choose a theme i would love to see a midevil themed sim. Lots of castles, manors, etc. There could also be ranks for people who lived in there, like peasant, merchant, noble, king etc.

I want a Toon Town sim, but somebody already said that so...
Air Sim, where the height tax is altered to encourage development in the air, and there's a floating village in the sky.
And just to make it more exotic, the ground would be mostly underwater, and people could also build underwater structures there.

I like that idea - cities in the air and water!
you could have a forest underneath the floating city! Or a hurricane above the underwater city.

19th Dynasty Egypt, circa 1200 B.C.E.
10-21-2003 06:22
Ancient Egyp during the 19th Dynasty, the reign of Ramses II (Ramses the Great) would be my theme. In this period not only was the fashion extremely chic compared to the other regions of the known world, but women were equals at this time in Egypt unlike the rest of the world for the next 3000 years. The Sim would contain all the of the architectural history of the known period, and those who lived in the Sim would live according to the rules, which were very similar to SL now: be productive in your endeavors, physical or social. Oh, the most important part is that I would be Pharaoh (like Hatshepsuts sans the fake beard). Briana Dawson Club Vogue Dancer

A space sim! Imagine a sim with no ground, no gravity, and spaceships of all types fly around and... uh... do spacy things.

The Wonderful World of OZ

Emerald City, Quadling, Gillikin, Winkie, and Munchkin. And the dominion of the Nome King, the land of Ev.
It would even have a Hip-po-gy-raf.

I like the Egypt idea, would be nice to have a Giza type deal with the Sphinx and all that done up in the original paint colors. But if I had my *own* themed sim, it would be in a corner (like Gray) if not an isthmus, so there would be at least two sides not connected to anything. I'd take some interesting LANDSAT geography and replicate it, much like Slartibartfast did with his Norwegian fjords, probably foothills and canyons sloping down to beaches. Then I'd put in a couple waterfalls and streams and put in some nice meeting areas and such, preferrably with nice views of surrounding terrain and water. The main idea would be to have water on at least two sides and relatively small builds scattered around and outside building turned off. That way you could have people stopping by just to kick back and look at the views, have meetings, classes, etc. in a nice, uncluttered, natural-looking environment with as high a framerate as possible. I would probably be able to do this with 3,000 or fewer primitives, which is a big plus for cutting lag. The scattered nature of the builds would enhance this as well. This idea comes from my many hikes in Eaton Canyon and driving excursions into Angeles National Forest. I really like nature areas, and I do not think SL has nearly enough of them. http://gallery.kadath.org/HunsPhotos

To the folks that suggested medieval themes -- why? We already have Darkwood. Unless there's a difference that I'm not thinking about... I'd love to see an air/space sim where we didn't have to worry about up/down orientation. A Ringworld-style sim, which is basically a world on the inside of a tube-shaped sim. Or was it donut-shaped? I've always been fascinated by Dyson spheres. I wanna see how the faithful residents of SL react to a sim this different! </Stan Lee impression>

If we had a space sim, we could build Babylon 5. Or have starship battles.
