24 Hours without SL....

This thread was meant to be humurous. There are plenty of other threads that have been started for this type of complaint. And I believe the compensation issue has been address. In the SL agreement or better known as TOS. SL does not guarantee that the server is up.

Also, let me just point out that their is a reason that we are all addicted and that is because althought SL has its faults, It has alot more better qualities. I too was upset and frustrated earlier, but only from the constant teasing that SL is up. Just try to except that the Lindens are doing all they can and are probably just as and even probably more frustrated than us.

Well if thats true then i know what type of game they are running then and I don;t like it. I play other online games and when things like this happen they atleast have us updated atleast 10-20 minutes at a time. And if it's something this bad, liek not getting in for 24 hours they make it up to us....

I think it is very wrong not to keep us updated, atleast tell us something...
they can even lie and say soemthing like "Well, a lot of people are signing in at once make this hard..." But no, they just keep us out in the rain. And to think that they will do nothing about it... man oh man

i am addicted as well lol you don't see me going balistic because SL is down for 1 F'n day..read a F'n book, watch a movie, go for a walk get some air.. things break down i am sure they are working on it

I don't know any game that says the server will always be up in TOS... I just know in some games they make it up to us. And please don't tell me where to post, it might of been made for hummer but what I am saying is not off topic at all.

Chill, I was advising you of my intentions for this thread that I started and then merely suggesting where your complaints may be better received. Linden Labs have compensated once before but not for downtime. It was because the server was reset and everything created in a 4 hour period was lost. Therefore, everyone that was logged in during that time was compensated. They are not unreasonable and they have been keeping us informed. They are probably so busy trying to fix the problem that they aren't able to give us updates every 10 min.

This is the last time I will be nice towards your impatience.

TheBest Page, Im not gonna sit here and make excuses do I agree with you on your point of view? Of course I do.
But, Ironicly I and a few others have been here long enough to know thats not going to happen as 24 hrs of Down Time is pennys in some cases.

For instance: for me personally I am at a Tier of $40 US a month so what does that equate to in hours....

30 days is 720hrs thus $40 US is $.05 per hour so 24hrs is a whopping $1.33 of time lost for me at that rate.

Now lets look at the extremes of both an average player with 512 meters of land and a monthly fee is paying 14.95 amonth.

At 14.95 amonth 24hrs is only$.50 for a lost day.

Or lets look at those that are zelous enough to pay the full sim tier of $195.00 for 24hrs they loose $6.50.

So, is it important to reimburse based on how much one pays it can be argued both ways however the thing you have to remember is this "How Important is SL to you?" is it worth paying everyone back for a technical glitch and if a person cannot connect due to their server or their system is that LL fault and with a policy of reimbursment such as that it could eventually cripple the game and ultimatly shut it down. Its a balence of love and scrutiny depending on whats important to you. Basically what I am saying is if your bickering over pennys to play then maybe thats a decision you need to make as to whether you stay or go. Im not directing you to a choice but letting you know that complaining about it will only get debated and in the end you will get mad and leave in flustration of the debate which has nothing to do with SL. Hope all that made some sense.

heheh mrsjackal, you rock. Gawd, I still can't get in. This is worse than a crack addiction. Soon I'll lose my job, split with my spouse, and be panhandling on the street..... "SL time? SL time?" I'll train my dog to ferret out old graphics cards in junkpiles and build some frankenstein monstrosity of a PC and then EEETTTSSSS ALIVE!!!!!! for that split second before the ISP realizes that I'm on a pirated connection and.... yup, it's only downhill from here... SL is clearly the beginning of the end of the rest of my life.

P.S. I don't think LL owes me a damn thing for this downtime. Crap happens. We're on the leading edge with an exciting startup. You don't want to take the pain that comes with that territory? Then what are they responsible for? Everyone is telling me they aren't responsible for downtime, for keeping us updated, ect...

A game service should be responsible for keeping us informed as they are fixing the problem. As far as I'm concern they have told us nothing. They said that log in is back but slow... Really, no way! I could of told you that one. I would like to know what they problem and why it's taking so long. What steps they are taking and how much longer should I sit in front of my computer. This is the 4th hour of me just sitting here re logging...

Its half past five in the morning here. I got up early coz I hoped SL would be back after being unable to get in last night.
No! Here is sit in my nightdress, a little cold, a little tired and no SL.
I am too awake to go back to bed again and not got to go to work for three hours.

My advice is to no longer sit in front of your computer relogging again and again. Go for a walk, read a book, look at something else on the internet. Go play mah jhongg for petes sake...

...oh, and BTW - they HAVE told us the problem:

It started about 24 hours ago with a system blowing up its hard-drive. No data was lost, but the system was hobbled and slow. They then took the network down this morning to replace / re-distribute the hardware. While doing so, some database / MySQL issues were discovered and it was decided to try to fix them in the meantime.

Obviously these issues have grown to be larger than anticipated... As a veteran network technician who's spent a night trying to "sleep" in JFK airport's international terminal during a snowstorm with a $20,000 multiplayer-gaming-server between my legs, I can tell you that this is not a unique thing. And I assure you that the LL folks are not having any more fun dealing with this issue than you are waiting for it to be fixed.

At least you're not the one with thousands of people screaming at you to fix things, and the bosses breathing down your neck right before New Year's Day! Yes - if you are paying for a service, you have a right to that service... but as I posted elsewhere recently, even 100-year-old industries like power and water have service interruptions. And what most people pay to join SL doesn't really cover the bandwidth costs of the service right now I'd bet - much less covering 32 people's salaries, as well as compensating LL for a couple of years of R&D! LL has posted a few times over the last 24 hours to explain the problem - I for one would rather have them WORKING the problem than spending all their time TALKING about it.
