In SL people are always busy with three different projects at a time. I find it hard to believe that all you SLers dont have some RL project going on as well.
Me, I started a blog (pneus.blogspot.com though its in portuguese) where I describe my daily progress in my quest for self-improvement. I'm not horribly fond of silly things such as new year's resolutions but suddenly I took a big long look at my life and said to myself "What a loser. Get a life!"
Apparently, myself listened and so I'm getting one. I've been exercising, and eating less. Lost 10 pounds in my first 2 weeks. Tomorrow I'll find out if I lost anything in my third.
I'm also trying to spend less time at the computer, and spend my computer time more productively. Instead of playing games all day long, I've decided to dust off my old PHP skills and coded Darwin's login system for his game (Maythria), then some simple word game for a friend of mine.
I've also cleaned up my room an awful lot. Threw out a bunch of crap I didnt need. I set aside a small table with a lamp at a corner, so I have a dedicated space for studying, and I'm reviewing all my high school math since 10th grade so I won't flunk calculus and linear algebra yet again =)
So what about you? Done anything interesting lately?

Well, I am currently in the process of building a music computer, which, I have to say, is not going well. :( Also I belong to an early music group, and we're busy rehearsing for a recital in April. Yes, it does take us that long to get it right! :)

Eggy,

Sorry - I meant a computer devoted to music.

I'm pretty much on the computer all day (Yay I'ma a loser!), when I'm not I'm most likely reading or studying, drawing/sketching, or playing video games. Oh the boring life that is Oz. :D

80% of my day I spend on SL Devlin so you aren't the only loser here :P. The 20% I'm not on SL I'm doing the other things listed, showering etc. or sleeping (don't do that often).

I even stay in SL while I read or play games sometimes just in case someone needs me, heheh.

Er.... on the computer posting on messageboards LOL

Sometimes work on the car and frequently go out on the razz, otherwise it's all computer based. Mmm Linux tinkering (bring SL to Linux!)

Heh, sorry guys I didnt mean to flame you. I've been there. I spent most of last summer playing SL on a 16 hour a day schedule. Late last year I realized it was ruining my life, so I left SL for 22 days, but it didnt get better because I just played something else instead. I realized I had an atrocious lack of discipline and so I'm trying to fix that.
My main goal in life is to keep my gf happy, not be SL's greatest player, and it would also be nice if I could actually graduate from college and get a job so that I can move in with her and "get a life", instead of living off of mom.
I'm 24 years old man. I should have graduated 3 years ago.
I just flunked every single class I enrolled in, so I wasted 6 months of my life playing games. It's not the sort of thing I want written on my tombstone.

RL & SL
02-01-2004 15:22
LoL great question Eggy.

Since beginning SL four days ago - i have experienced my RL and SL merging somewhat. I own a small online business, and I keep jumping back into SL instead of working online business.

I know, im a looser.

But i have been eating, showering, talking with my daughter, walking and feeding my dog, paying bills and exercising.

(Now if i can just stop looking at the Events and saying - "I'll just stay for a minute";).

LoL

I know exactly how you feel Eggy. I'm 21 now but left college at 18 with the intention of getting a job.

Spent a year basically playing EverQuest, then signed onto "Job Seekers Allowance" (the Dole to our lot, or whatever the rest of the world calls it!).

Got through 6 months playing EQ and sending off the occasional half-assed letter and ended up on what we call "New Deal" - a 'course' where all the criminals, druggies and losers end up and get provided with mentoring, classroom sessions, enforced job seeking sessions etc. You basically get treated like a naughty schoolkid, as you've forfeited the 6-month right to be treated like an adult. It's possible to end up there through sheer bad luck, and that was the 'excuse' I used... though deep down I knew it was down to laziness.

I took the voluntary option of New Deal and went to work for a local charity, where eventually I learned to do something in Real Life. Somewhere about this point I quit EQ to concentrate on this and grab a Higher Education course...

That's all it took thankfully - my IT skills were realised and I ended up taken on as IT Manager for the same place I volunteered. Now have a perfectly healthy balance between work and play/SL/EQ/boards/etc.

So really it's the same thing - it's not the game that's at fault, it's the system and other people's kindness allow you to do so, but more than that it's your own willpower. It took being treated like a schoolboy / convict that whipped me into shape! It takes all sorts....

I didn't think you were flaming anyone really Eggy. I wish yah the best of luck with your girlfriend and real life. :D

Hehe, on my tombstone I want it to say "He wasn't great at LSL, but he made a really good big cube!". Or "I'd rather be programming." or "I'm right behind you!" and higher a guy to pop out and scare people who read it. BWahahaha.

Lol, I should have caught that one. :D

If I had to pay people for my spelling corrections, I'd be a very, very poor man.

hehehe good topic eggy.

I usually spend about an average of one to two hours iw each day. when im not doing that, im shuffling the hubby to and from work, the munchkin to and from school, tending to various household demands, working when i have a client ect ect.
hehe and as nergal mentioned, dodging raindrops is always on that list.
Now what gets ridiculous is the amount of time i spend in Photoshop and Lightwave creating garments/textures. hehe i would say i spend about 2 to 4 hours a day creating content.
:)

Im a partner in a small software development/consulting firm.

I spend 6-10 hours a day on the computer writing code, be it for work or pleasure.

I just broke up with my girl.

I spend 5 to 6 nights a week at the bars, most of the time trying to close the days new hottie.

I lift mon,wed,fri @ 7am.

I spend every other sunday afternoons cooking with my parents for our twice monthly sunday dinner. (they live about 35 minutes away, so I really only see them for this)

I shoot pool in an APA pool league (rank 4), I build sport compacts (acura rsx).

Oh, and i have a few pet development projects im working on.

I read the SL forums about once a day, but I logon to SL about once every one or two weeks.
