Building Bug?

Since 1.1 I have noticed that building has become difficult due to the fact that if you shift and drag an item in one direction to make a duplicate on the same plane, the coordinates change buy a few thousandths. Then if you try to correct them by typing the ones you want in, it still reverts to the previous number, and then another coordinate may change. And this isnt an uncommon occurance, 90% of the time I shift-duplicate, this happens.

Yep, I have been frustrated by this as well. I dont have a problem with them reverting after I correct the position, but dragging a copy frequently misaligns as Bigbowser describes.

Yes, this was driving me crazy yesterday. If I can't align things properly, everything I make is going to look like crud.

Use the Grid, Luke! :D
I really would like to see this fixed. Also I would like to protest at our present inability to twist a sphere.
I used to be able to do it by twisting a cube and changing its shape to a sphere afterwards. With a hollow cut twisted sphere you used to be able to make these cute spirally things that were good for tails. This ruined my pig costume and today it made it impossible for me to do a decent rat tail for a rat i was building.

Can you adjust the grid? When I tried it early on I thought it was set permanently to about .5, but I haven't messed with it since.

Either ctrl-alt-B or ctrl-shift-B (memory fails again) will open the grid properties. Or I think there is an option in the Tools menu.

We CAN use the grid, but that dosn't explain the issue that is occuring, this is new.

I've alwaysed done things "by eye", I know tricks to keep the numbers in line without going into them. Please please tell us this is just a bug >_<

I had that happen to me once a few weeks ago, except, mine was off by a tiny bit more than a few thousanths... It's probably a bug

I posted bug report about this:

From: someone
When dragging objects in edit mode with the 3D arrows (so that motion is confined to one axis) the object will jitter along the other two axes. [This incorrect behavior is new in version 1.1]

When Shift-dragging the 3D arrows (to drag the object away and leave a new copy in it's old position) the new copy will sometimes be in a slightly different position along one or more of the three axes. [This incorrect behavior is more pronounced in 1.1, but sometimes occurred in previous versions.]

(Also there's a thread about this on the tech forum)

Thanks for the report. We're aware of the issue and are working to resolve it.

I hope it gets fixed soon. I was trying to build a structure and the misalignment was simply driving me wild, not even worth the frustration to build. When I would use the postion number grids, the items were moving along two axis! I would use the blue slider to simply raise the object and it would raise and head south along the green axis as well!! This is an extremely frustrating bug.

a couple things......

The Shift Drag bug isn't only for copying....it happens on moving too....I hope they fix that one soon

Twisted Spheres are still possible.....I did it last night....(I usually start with cylinders).

there's another bug (that they already know about) that you need to be careful with......if you change the bump/shiny texture on one face of a linked object you stand the chance of making the objects move apart from each other....the link still holds but they positions are different in relation to each other......becareful with this or you may have to rebuild something later.

I was building last night and every time I selected an object it would move just a few centimeters. I also noticed the positioning arrows seem to move inconsistent with the way they used to. I can really put my finger on it but the entire building process was screwed up.

I wonder if the new waves effect the avatar and cause the object to move with the av when selected. I do have that turned on.

Xavier, I noticed the same thing last night. When I was selecting textures on my piano, the individual piece would jump a couple of centimeters out of alignment on the x axis.

This is getting extremely annoying - trying to link objects is a pain because every time I click on one to add it to the group, it jumps out of position so I need to line it up again.. repeat ad nauseam..

Yeah. :(

I lined up a couple of prims, then started dragging one of them up and down with the blue Z arrow. I could see it wiggle in the X and Y directions, though it wouldn't go far from where it was supposed to be. When I'd let go of the arrow, it would jump one more time along the X and Y axes, usually in the same direction. Repeatedly dragging the Z arrow and letting go, I got the prim to move half a meter along the Y!

VERY bad.

Looks like a small rounding error that can have cumulative effects over many re-positionings.

Rounding errors are HARD to debug. They could be cropping up ANYwhere...

if you have a mouse wheel, try mouse over in the editor over the x axis, than rotata the wheel up and down repeating for a bit, you will notice that the Y axis drifts in one direction continously wile shifting the x axis up and down repeatedly.

Very annying, I know the lindens got their plate full with bugs this time, but the world here is (after all the technical stuuf is done) on building, this bug is horrible :-P. I don't remember seeing it in the test. Did anyone else?

What happened on the grid update that caused this?

I actually noticed it in Luna when we first got to start building there, but I thought I was imagining things. I dont remember seeing it in 1.1 preview, but I didnt really build anything that needed alignment.

Its maddening just trying to do simple stuff like making flooring for a dwelling. I cant imagine trying to build anything even a little complex under these conditions. I did see that there is another bug fix monday morning, hopefully this will be addressed. Im going to wait to do any more building, its driving me crazy right now.

they are working on it and think they found the problem.....Philip said to be very careful with linked objects since they do tend to drift apart if you edit a piece of the linked objects.....I think he also said something about a fix monday.....(if i recall correctly)
