When you need other apps to get more share of resources, minimize SL. Seems the engine stops, and it frees up most of the resources it was using. I do this when I'm working on a sound or texture.

Hmmm thanks Jillian, I'll try that. Again I miss the obvious -- I didn't minimize SL before... rather, I clicked on another item in the taskbar. This also makes your av go (AWAY) inworld too, doesn't it?

SL takes 50% of my CPU power (or slightly above) when active, when Minimized it takes about 0% thankfully (this is about average with games as well). Eltee once described in detail on IRC why (or why she thinks) SL takes up so much processing, something to do with the drawer not having any real sleeps or stops in it, this gives SL a nicer draw, but more hog of processing (I'm sure thats completely incorrect, but thats what I'm going with). SL does of course take up a large ammount of bandwith due to all thats being sent back and forth. Usualy my bandwith bar thingy is pretty full when running SL, same as with games and file sharing. (so its not just SL of course)

question: does anybody know, or care to theorize, whether or not running in one mode or the other is "faster" or causes less client side lag?

Windowed in Win98, because fullscreen doesn't work. Fullscreen or windowed in Linux, depending on whether or not I want the extra few percentage points of speed that fullscreen gives.

Win 98?????

add them up and we have

2The 2difference 2between 2me 2and 2you = 0

2(The difference between me and you) = 0

The difference between me and you = 0/2

The difference between me and you = 0

I never thought we were so similar

I use it windowed. When I try fullscreen, everything works fine until I've got to switch to another app. Everytime I switch back, my view doesn't fully rez. Usually leaves me with a grey face for the rest of my SL uptime, Sometimes grey body too.

Fullscreen. When I'm in-world, I prefer to be completely there. I want most of my system's resources working on SL.
