I suggest LL establish a new forum for threads about the forums. If you want to post a thread about how to post in the forums, you could post it there.
Oops I just started another thread about forum posts. I'm sorry, I will never do it again.
Buster
P.S. After creating the forum about the forums, move this thread there. Along with all the other "what not to do in the forums" threads. Or maybe just declare forum posts about forum posting to be "off topic", and move 'em all there.

Perhaps first we should have a temporary forum to discuss the implementation of a forum forum.
I see your forum forum, and raise you a forum forum forum.

Perhaps we could form a forum forum as well as forming a forum forum forum. Edit for clarity - The formation of the forum forum would be formed after the forum forum forum's formed, otherwise LL would have quite a formidable task in the formation of the forum forum.

Well, but, StoneSelf, that's better than just being constantly told that your thoughts are so meritless, they don't deserve discussion, or that the flame of what you're interested in has been stomped out long ago, so shut up already. Or even, if the mods just said WHERE to discuss forum issues, that would help. coco

A "Community Standards" Linden forum would have my vote.
Mostly, because it would take the load off Hotline and General over one of the most common issues.

That sounds intriguing - what all would go in it? I think the problem with any of these ideas is running into the same problems that "Rants" thread generally do. Just mentioning that as a caution. In which case declaring them all to be off-topic would be preferable. coco

Somehow Coco, I doubt it. General and Off-Topic are pretty much the Rants forums. A new forum would see fewer rants simply because fewer people would be viewing them, thus less appealing to that sort of person.

Yeah, I'm getting a little weary of the "Wah, wah, nobody likes me because I can't conduct myself in a civilized manner, I demand everyone love me and never disagree with me" threads. Since these always spin off a "Why was my personal dissatisfaction thread closed" thread, a Forum Forum would generate a 50% cut in drama posts in general, since the spinoff threads would belong in the Forum Forum.

You and I clearly disagree on who conducts themselves in a civil manner, Enabran. What is continually cast in terms of PERSONAL dissatisfaction is actually a huge problem with these forums, and that affects everyone. The forums were not dysfunctional simply because of a person now departed, and they are not dysfunctional now simply because Catherine has not yet departed, and they are not dysfunctional now simply because I have not yet departed. Or any other individual, past, present, or future. As someone else said on another thread, it is not a matter of "rooting out the bad guys." Interestingly, along the lines of this thread, I popped over to TSO threads a little while ago, and I see they have in fact started a new forum for just this sort of thing. I forget what they called it - Stratics something or other. But it is for just this sort of thing, for discussing forum rules and various other things. So it is being done, for TSO anyway. coco

From: Cocoanut Koala Well, but, StoneSelf, that's better than just being constantly told that your thoughts are so meritless, they don't deserve discussion, or that the flame of what you're interested in has been stomped out long ago, so shut up already. Or even, if the mods just said WHERE to discuss forum issues, that would help. coco You know, I have never actually seen anyone say any of this to you. I challenge you to post a single example where someone literally said to you any of the following: 1) "Your thoughts are meritless." 2) "Your thoughts do not deserve discussion." 3) "What you're interested in was stomped out long ago." 4) "Shut up already." Not some line taken out of context that you believe means any of the above, but an actual quote of someone saying this to you. You DO understand the difference, right? No, actually, I think you do NOT understand the difference. Hence my challenge to you. I challenge you to force yourself to face up to the reality that your choice of interpretation is the base cause of your belief that anyone has ever said ANY of these things to you. I then challenge you to spend some time contemplating why, given the choice, you so consistantly choose to misread and read into what others write here. Why you, instead of asking for clarification, gleefully add your misconstrued reading to some litany of imagined wrongs, and why you insist upon parading these imagined wrongs about like some kind of 'proof' that people hate you when in reality, all you are proving is that you seem to want to be hated.... -boggle-

From: Jauani Wu does satire go in the forum forum? or does it get it's own forum? For the benefit of forum readers, "satire" is a form of humor. "Humor" is that which is intended to inspire laughter. "Laughter" is an expression of mirth or delight. "Mirth" is, oh I give up. There's little room for levity here. No kidding. (No kidding is allowed, I mean.) Buster
