From: Lo Jacobs Seeing as many of my friends (including black ones) make jokes about niggers, I don't think that his was necessarily racist. To be that blatant about things can either mean a) he's really racist or b) he just wants to offend everyone.
But why does that elevate him (Grimmy) to a level above Shepp?

Grimmy was an annoying pain in the ass. But he was, at least, clever. He was also 'mature', in a way, at least as mature as you can be while being a childish asswipe.
Shepp was just annoying. He wasn't even a pain in the ass. Just annoying, and occasionaly offensive. He wasn't even original in his asshattery. He was a kid standing off to the sidelines trying to present an image he was wholey incapable of supporting, thinking it made him in some bizzare way "cool", and in general the forum equivilant of a fly that buzzes around in an annoying fashion... You can't make it go away, but it's just annoying, not a serious problem. (Since his account is cancled, it's not against the ToS to speak of him, right?)

From: Wall Street What about Shepp? Did he not display some of the characteristics of Grimmy? What elevated Grimmy above the status of common griefer and regales Shepp to the pits of its core? Shepp was an amatuer griefer at best, and a very poor one at that.

Is anyone here a member of the SecondLife Historical Society? If I started collecting artifacts (scripts, forum messages, pictures, etc) of his life, would they be interested in doing an exhibit on him in the museum?
And you raise a good point... is it now legal to post things about Shepp since he is no longer a member?

Umm..the guy was and is an idiot. I think it's amusing that people praise him here. Read his spoutings carefully. He says very little of any interest or content. Mainly it is just babble that seems to lean toward self-jusification and scorn (while at the same time showing severe insecurities). He was just another in a long line of attention seeking, immature geeks, with the only difference being that he could actually use the english language.
Having your fun at the expense of many others, and then ridiculing them for growing angry at you for it....
Oh yeah..what a hero he is..*rolls eyes*

From: Wall Street Well, I'm not Shepp... I could only aspire to be that hilarious. You HAVE to be Shepp. No one in their right mind thinks he is hilarious. He was pretty lame, and had the sense of humor of a dead fish.

David,
I agree. The thing that most characterised him, in my opinion, was his overweening ego. In that respect he was no different from any common or garden griefer.

From: Wall Street Grimmy said some pretty racist things. Check out his interview: (Maybe its time that has made us all fond of him)
Pictures... Granny Celestie was a TSO griefer, pretty funny at times. Last I heard he was playing SL. http://www.alphavilleherald.com/archives/000354.html

Whilst I can appreciate Grimmy's masterful "art" of greifing, I still despise him.
I met him on *several* occasions.

From: Siggy Romulus Grimmy was without a doubt, the funniest f*cker I have every met in Second Life -- no exceptions...
In my book he was the ultimate melodramatic villain, and all others since have been bad photocopies -- a generation lost each time.
Siggy. Wish I'd had the opportunity to meet him. I was reading his blog and the interview and I think he was a brilliant villain! With regard to his being racist: From: Celestie : Do you think people secretly enjoy the fact that this mysterious griefer is challenging them to cope with their own prejudice and judgments? Sort of making them face their demons... I think maybe he might have buried some of his genius behind the smoke eminated from his fire bombs. Shepp on the other hand was merely a dogmatic shock jock. Nothing nearly so clever as Grimmy.

Though I did not know him, Grimmy seems to have had an extraordinary couple of days, made a few great heists, and shocked the virtual world. His brief lifespan (3 days) was not long enough for him to generate the real hatred of *most* SL's citizens. Now that he's gone, he has become something of a mythical figure. Shepp on the other hand lasted for months. Had Grimmy lasted longer, you probably all would have disliked him more than Shepp.

Grimmy died such a horrible, horrible death in SL.
I... I couldn't believe it.
There he was, slauntering and sassin' up a storm, his firebomb equipment waving at his side... You could almost, *wipes tear*, see his huge buck teeth reflected in the oceans... when out of the sky came Super Linden.
The last we saw of Grimmy that day was him being drug off by his dreads, his bare feet kicking up small dust storms as they dragged him away from the beach.
Rest in peace, Grimmy.

All I can say is that it was my single most inspired moment as a blogger to have a 16 year old TSO griefer interview Grimmy in the Second Life Herald. Student interviews master. Most memorable exchange: Moonflower: The best part was a series of burping and farting noise antics combined with a few lame attempts at sending a rocket up a Linden's tailpipe actually caused some pretentiously-prone poetic types to ask me if it all had a deep universal meaning! Celestie: Sort of like 9/11 made us all think and evolve. Moonflower: Right. Definitely like 9/11. Moonflower: My farting noise-clicks were the screaming 757s of Muslim rage.

One of his alts or friends or something made a "bring back grimmy" particle bomb and blasted a friend of mine into another sim out of nowhere. I guess it was pretty funny for him but none of us saw the point in it. Later, someone (Christiano?) posted his manifesto to the forums. I tore it apart sentence-by-sentence, annihilating his arguments one by one. It was pretty easy. Anyone who has taken a 100-level course in logic or debate at a community college could have done the same. The tone it was written in was really funny - basically, someone making fun of SLers for taking SL too seriously, while he himself spent a ridiculous amount of time and energy on SL, all written in a style you would expect from a 16-year-old wannabe megalomaniac with a bruised ego. Apparently he threw a prozak panic attack and put me on his hit list... Quite a thing to do for someone who was trying to promote this image of totally not giving a shit... No one has griefed me in all the time I have been on it, which is the better part of a year... but if you want to collect L$2500 from someone who isn't even in SL any more, feel free to contact me, and we can set up an appointment for you to come bother me or something...
