...is what my hubby tells me everytime I try to impress him with SL. Aggh Last night I finally told him about the ability to make real-life money (didn't want to but thought it would get his attention)....He didn't get it. AAGH. But then again, we do have a significant age difference...so maybe that's why? Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone else is going through the same and how they deal with it! ?

He's right. My partner scoffs at my enjoyment of Second Life because there is no 'point' to it, but as I point out to him, sometimes having no point IS the point.

I don't get it either, and I can't figure out why anybody would want to play Second Life. But I enjoy it, so I always come back.

Have an online affair in SL and then tell him about it. See how long he thinks it's all 'just a game'.... but that might not generate the kind of result you are looking for. -Ghoti

My wife does not get the whole SL thing either, but she does humor me and pretends to be interested when I show her my creations.
Good enough for me.

It's more like lego. The network connectivity and crude chatroom are just inconvenient mandatory features they make you have if you wanna play with the lego

You cannot describe the taste of apples to someone who has never eaten one. And even after they do, their experience will be different from yours -- they may say "Apples suck! Ewww!" but at least you know they've given it a good try... well, they would if they ate a whole apple.
Besides that, the whole process of sharing in here extends what humans have strived to do for so many years, to connect and bond and relate to one another (and in some cases, to know that even if you're an introvert, you aren't alone). And through creative storytelling and deep insight and even some wacky times away, if that tells you a little more about yourself and the world you live in, you'll be all the better for it.

Divorce him. It's the only answer.
Or, sit him down at the computer, have SL loaded up, and say to him "Ok, it's a game right? Well see if you can beat it." (depending on which sim he's in though "beat it" could be taken the wrong way)
If he responds by buying alot of land, making items, and getting alot of money, then check his computer for traces of SL Hacks the ultimate guide to SL hacks and tips on how to win.

A problem I see a lot with SOs, including my fiancee, is that they don't realize the people that you're playing with are real people. They know it intellectually, but they think it's similiar to other simmies in offline Sims. They're animated, but they're not REAL. The biggest thing that helped me with my fiancee is when I actually met one of my friends that I've played 3 online games with now irl. Made him go "ohhh, i sort of get it now".

I have pity for those who require a preordained task in order to "play" a "game" I suppose the world needs its sheep.

I can't play more than one at once either LOL I do know people who play 2 or more AT THE SAME TIME. They're not very fun to hang out with though cause they never talk cause they're switching b/w games. *shrugs*

None of my friends own computers, I suppose it's the age range. They are puzzled and confused and are convinced that ALL the people I speak with are perverts and weirdos waiting to pounce lol. Because I have rather bad arthritis its difficult for me to go out and about too much and most of my friends are spread about the UK. SL is my salvation and I have great friends from all over the world on SL.
I love it!
