LMAO! OMG! My eyebrow arched so high, it just shot off my head. I wish I was there. I would've said, "Who the fuck is you?!" (borrowed from Chris Rock). I always like to say that when the opportunity arises. :D

I just received an unsolicited teleport and I have attached giant prims to myself and will accept the teleport.

Here's a pic.
You can sort of see my legs. :D
I may attach a few more prims. Though the Serpent head is almost 100.

LMAO! NICE! :D

I can't stand that crap so I put a notice in my profile that says not to do that. People didn't seem to stop sending me teleports at first but they have now.

I can't stand getting ports from someone I've met once who has my card, or, even worse, someone who DOESN'T have my card.

However, I do keep my calling cards organized: Close Friends, Acquaintences, Other Folks, Lindens, Twits, etc.

Since no one checks event listings, if something - say, a friends 1st SL b-day party is going on - I will send ports to people in my "Friends" calling card folder with a descriptive message like "Come join us in [sim] for [person]'s 1st SL b-day party if you can! I hope things are going well. :-)"

Since the events listings are so filled with nonsense any more - like, the same club having a grand reopening again, or "u come 2 my party free $$$$$$" its really one of the few ways to get a legit gathering. Port spam I'm against, but if its a close friend or at least an acquaintance who would be interested, I think its okay.

I believe offering ports should be limited to people who's cards you have, however, or someone who has initiated an instant message with you (not the other way around).

Regards,

-Flip

To borrow an idea from some IM programs, instead of making it so that only people with your card can port you.. have it be an option:

[ ] Only allow teleport requests from those with my calling card

This way, at least it can be turned off in instances when you would like to go to a party in a full sim, but don't personally know anyone there to teleport ya.

Okies I'll let the cat outta the bag as to what I do, although after this my 'plead ignorance' excuse may not cut it anymore :)

I have an attachment that launches anyone in 20m around me into orbit... I put that on and accept the t-port.. run quickly in circles a couple of times then tport home.

My prepared excuse was 'well I was working on the script at my home, and when I went to save.. this tport window popped up in front of it!'

Time for a new plan I guess :P

My plan didnt' work. By the time I got the giant attachment situated correctly and taken a picture, the teleport offer had expired.
Oh well.....

next time! :D

I say... add a "Profile" option to the Teleporting request so that we can negatively rate people who are giving out mass Teleport offers.

Camille, I love your land shark/serpent thing. Very nice - great idea, but as you've found out - it expires unless you're very quick about attaching things.

Ultimately, this thread has served its purpose - people are annoyed by the practice, and it may change, but what this really is a symptom of is the underlying system. In this world, dwell is king, and any activity that can be promoted and rewarded by the system will cause this kind of behavior (non-solicited teleports) to continue.

Again, many problems can be re-examined in this way, and you'll be suprised (perhaps) to find that it isn't just the people in SL, but how the system rewards certain types of behavior. I've modified my expectations, I've deleted my last large build, tiered to zero extra land fees, and basically will be checking in now and then to see what is happening.

SL has great possibility, but at the same time, dreams shouldn't have such a large price.
