Missing plane and wooden block!! Taxes wil hurt!

I had a plane suddenly disappear on me about 1500 meters up.,.. I fell into olive, so thus I would assume it was somewhere around there. I did not receive a "offworld" message, nor is the plane in my lost and found.

To make this even more fun, I made a block an tossed a flight script into it inorder to attempt to find it. I ended up flying offworld, so it was return. When I rezed it again it shot straight upward. I attempted to chase after it, but well, it was much faster...

So... I now have a plane somwhere about 1500 meters up I think around olive, and a wooden square shooting straight up over teal. Thus, once taxes it, I have a feeling I will be very very very broke.. Anyone have any suggestions how to destroy these? Or hey Linden's? You got a nicer way to track things?

If it's any consolation, objects that are not linked to avatars are incapable of ascending past 768 meters absolute height. This should limit your search area.

That helps some.. If they were already above, will they drift down?

They can't go up that high in the first place unless they're linked to an avatar. If they were linked to an avatar and then the link was broken, I don't know what would happen.

:nod: This is one reason we really need an easy way to locate objects we own... I feel your pain Alo.. Ive commonly made mistakes in the edit window when positioing prims, loosing many. But thats odd... what would cause two vehicles to drop their drivers and speed upward?

I'm afraid I dont have many tips on how to retrieve the lost items. Perhaps sit on a cube and llSetPos() to z = 768, then initilize a sensor that is limited to objects owned by you.

Good luck!

Incredibly excessive speed will do it.

I probably send 5-6 IMs every week to people who have stuff way up high. 99% of the time it's stuff that was lost while building, but every now and then someone has a platform 500 meters up just because they want to be left alone every now and then. Flying around at high altitude with a 200-meter draw distance, you see this stuff quite frequently. Reuniting people with ultra-taxed objects is probably the most useful thing I do in-world.

It was feasible I was crossing a sim line also. At 1500 M up, it is hard to tell exactly where you were. The interesting thing also was with the original plane, I still had the keystroke captured icon, however I could not disengage it. The prime actually was not a case of throwing me unexplainanly but rather the object going off world and then when I rez'd it again, it shot upwards. I suppose for the prime, at least unless it did a perfectly straight up, it eventually should go off world. Heck, I suppose there always is the posibility they are not up there anymore but failed to make it to lost and found. GRr..

Hmm, well you could try using a sensor to detect it and using the particle system to "point" (target) anything you own (or just whatever), to help find it.

Yes, I suppose that would work but could be time consuming to run since I am not even sure which sim the plane is in. But I think I will make it non-physical this time. Just got to keep reminding myself not to do physics and all will be fine. :)

One thing you might do is toss in a seperate script to "dangerous" things, like vehicles.

CODE

default
{
state_entry()
{
}
on_rez()
{
llSetTimerEvent(18000);
}

timer()
{
llDie();
}
}

Gives ya 5 hours to goof around with it, and will kill itself if left/lost.

Yeah, it wasn't a finalize ordeal, actually it was Andrew Linden's flight example script.... I'll probably end up launching a bunch of probe objects that just creap across the sims scanning non-stop for the objects. It is just a pain, since it still is feasible they are not up there...

I don't think it's your plane, but I did find an A-10 Warthog inserted through the side of my house in Chartreuse. I've IMed the owner and I hope it's gone by the time I get online this evening. I hate to delete it, since I don't know ifthey have a duplicate :-/

Perhaps this stuff is happening more frequently becasue of the changes to flight behavior in the last update?

By the way, I would like to ask all scriptors to consider putting a script in their items that calls the owner if the items is lost.

I had a Pixel for a while (until a server crash ate it :-/ ) and it had a wonderful feature where it would send me an IM and simply tell me where it was. And, if I didn't get there, or couldn't find it, it would fling itself off the planet and land in my Lost and Found.

Was that a complicated script? Can't it be written and sold as a module for other scriptors to toss in the items they make?

Has anyone heard from Radium?

//Check every X seconds if owner is within an R meter range
integer X=5;
integer R=96;
//96 is the maximum possible range

default
{
state_entry()
{
llSensorRepeat("", llGetOwner(), AGENT, R ,TWO_PI, X );
}

no_sensor()
{
llInstantMessage(llGetOwner(),"I cant find you, come and get me at " + (string) llGetPos() + " in the " + llGetRegionName() + " region.";);
}
}

I had someone politely ask me to come fetch my 10x10x2 cement block that was stuck inside their living room. Oops.They were renting, so didn't have delete permissions.

But what you can do is right click on it, select more and there will be an option that will return the object to the owners inventory. I love that fucntion... makes it easy to clean up obviously lost stuff on your land, guilt free.

I feel your pain, Alondria. I recently had to fly sim to sim searching for a lost plane. Fortunately, something as big as a plane shows up like a big blue blotch on the mini-map. A jet-pack is useful for searches like this.

But what if you lose the jetpack while looking for the plane? Do you then switch to a hoverboard? The plot thickens! ;)

Yep, I use it all the time when people forget to pick up their clothing boxes after a purchase. It's a great feature! It returns the object to the folder in their inventory it was last in.

Heh, you people losing stuff are such wusses. You don't know hardship until you start looking for a very small INVISIBLE prim surrounded by someone else's build. :D

j/k btw!

I find the coolest stuff near my house in Gray. Well, under the ocean where three sims meet. I found a pumpkin (which belongs to someone I don't know, so I left it on the front 'porch' of my house if they want it) and once I saw a helicopter with 2 people inside, madly whirring away. I couldn't move anything though...that is, only the pumpkin.

Anyway...

What I do is...

After losing a few vehicles, and several catapult components (heheh), I now add something to anything experimental that I don't want to be too far away from me.

Basically I attach a prim to my avatar, and it llShouts on a channel every 10 seconds. The vehicle or whatever has a listen event handler that does a llGetAndResetTime every time the shout is heard. The vehicle also has in it's timer event handler an llGetTime, which will equal the time passed since last the object heard the 'tether' object's shout.

If more than a few minutes have passed since it heard the tether shout, it starts sending me instant messages with its location. If it doesn't get contact within several minutes, it self destructs.

Maxx D., that's a good way to deal with it... unless your objects land in a no-script zone. :)

Maxx M. (too many Maxxes), I think what you're seeing is a bug. I sometimes find objects underground in the corners of sims, but I don't think they are actually there. For example, I visited Oak Grove and found one of my vehicles underground in the corner with someone else's hovercraft. By the time I extracted my vehicle from the ground, I noticed that the other vehicle had popped itself back to it's regular spot in the parking lot. On another occasion, I found someone in one of my rental jets underground in the corner of Natoma. I came back later and it was gone.

This could be a new event - SimLostAndFound. Post your pictures of the bizarre stuff found in the corners of the sims you live or play in.

Actually, it would be interesting to have a 'ghost gallery'. I see quite a few of those now in my area, people just stuck horizontal in flight.

Ok, if I'm already flying and I enter a "No Fly" zone, I remain flying. I just can't *start* flying if I'm not already in that state.

Now, if a script is already running and the object enters a "No Scripts" zone does it continue running, just like the "flying" state?

Please only answer if you are certian... =)

If scripts continue running so long as they were already running when they entered, I think it would be neat to create scout bots that you can release, which will wander around and use sensors to find anything owned by you (reporting back and dying after an hour or so).

The only problem is if they can get disabled by no script zones, then they would probably be the cause of more lost prims than the solution.
