Still waiting on the reply.. but somehow I suspect it will be the 'holy crap I'm totally on the wrong track so I'll pretend nothing was posted' response.

LOL Siggy! I will be forever grateful to those who helped me when I first got here. I went to a building class and couldn't even figure out how to rez a cube. They were building a picture frame from a cube. I was so lost. (Nyna can attest to that.) I was curious how you could build anything from those silly building blocks. I wandered for a long time, not grasping any of it. Then I happened upon that $1 store where everything was a $1 or free and had full perms. My sl was changed forever! You created a monster.....hmmmm Monster Mash...has a familiar ring to it. Yes, I took your hot tub apart and after many conversations with you, I created a sauna. I gave you the first one and then asked if you cared if I tried to sell it. OMG and it actually sold! The sad beginnings of a content ...ummmm addicted person!

The other thing that I really didn't like in sl, at the time, was the plant selection that was available. Coming from TSO (OMG Prokofy its true!) where the plants where great, I was disappointed. But, Candie Apple, had some plant textures with mods and instructions for free.... and the rest is history.

I remember being a noob with little or no money! I made a vow to myself, that if ever learned to create here, that I would stay reasonably priced and would share that good fortune with others by giving back what was so freely given to me.

There are other stories of being a noob as well, like standing in Feye's store with a clothing box on my head and not much of anything else....still banned from there..:) But this might belong in another thread…lol

Siggy, thanks for reminding me of why!

Just to clarify, my 'waiting for reply' wasn't waiting for Mash, but I am rather glad you did drop a note here... especially with this:

From: someone

Then I happened upon that $1 store where everything was a $1 or free and had full perms.

Particularly with that.. in light of this:

From: someone

Imagine what we could do with a Siggy Romulus first-land free prefab if we could at least get in there and take off that God-awful brown/grey siding! (Is it brown or grey? I'm color blind.)

The rest of it was also pish... but seeing as that was the only part addressed *directly* at me - it's always nice to have testimony to trump an assumption and downright blatant misinformation...

Siggy.

An ode to the Pompous

Quote from Prokofy Neva

Um, I don't think Prokofy Neva's philosophy for SL, as caricatured on the forums by Merwan and others, is in fact a "capitalist tough love".

I can hardly be accused of *tough love* when I *give away land* for non-profit projects and even just to people who seem to have something interesting they want to do on land, when I happen to be juggling tier or something.

I can hardly be accused of *tough love capitalism* when my own business sometimes runs at a loss or breaks even in places because I think you have to be willing to experiment and take risks a lot in a very uncertain game/metaverse environment like this. It's precisely because it's more important to me to rent a 2048 beautiful property for only $500/week and enable both a player and me to keep a community nice, than it is to try to collect the $950/1000 I'd need to collect per week to pay tier and get even a small profit.

I can hardly be accused of *tough love capitalism* when I sell land with architects' houses on it and split the proceeds 50/50 to promote architecture in a game where architects are often ignored or not paid properly for their considerable services. This is a matter of public record.

I can hardly be accused of *tough love capitalism* when I sell PG for $3 or M for $6 to create communities, delaying even a break-even scheme for weeks if not forever, and even at a loss, when I paid more than that for the land. This is a matter of public record.

In another Post, a quote from Prokofy Neva
Oh, your work and time weren't compensated? Well, could that have something to do with this whole attitude of how you have to do everything as a selfless donation all the time, and then not let anyone else charge?

I do plenty of non-profit and charitable donations in the game, but unlike you, I don't need a massive ego massage by showing them off to everyone.

Were these 2 things written by the same person? Seems in the world of "throwing bouquets at oneself", we have a whole florist shop here...
For someone who so vehemently protested "self promotion of good works" we now know EXACTLY what you do for everyone...

This is all too HO-HUM to continue with anymore...

Tell it to the Marines; the entire idea of the forums is so nonsensical at this point that I realize why so few people continue to participate in them at all... I have no intention of letting you continue to spew out any barbs at me for bait. I do not fish so I don't need it. Tata to the General forum. As far as I can see Prokofy, you have accomplished much in SL. You have certainly spoiled this venue... Under the guise of being the "voice of new ideas" in SL, you have done nothing but further hate and bad feelings, mostly upon yourself. I refuse to bow to this level anymore. I will continue to play SL on my own terms. I don't claim to be right all the time, (nor does Mash) but we try to have the best of intentions. And we do not usually get into jousts with anyone, especially pompous types with the unmitigated gall to criticize EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.

But as my late Mom always said, "There is one in every crowd"

Best Regards, Baccara

Siggy, I knew who your waiting for reply was for. :) That's pretty normal. I just thought it was important that others knew that free stuff doesn't always stifle newbies :)

Merwan, you make it sound as if there is some sort of "cold war" between Capitalist and Socialistic forces. In truth, both ideologies can win in SL. Is there really THAT much hostility between the two sides to beg the question "which side is winning?"... I didnt know we had to pick a side :-/

Nahhh - it's all pretty much tongue-glued-to-cheek - I seldom fling sterotypes but often do try to echo back with sillyness.

No sides need be taken - nor are there any thin lines of separation between us.
