I love that first one Nergal! The "Ode" is very appropriate to this place, too, being about artists.

Ode

WE are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

-- Arthur Edgar William O'Shaughnessy

Here's a couple of my favorites:

"The price of liberty is eternal vigilance"

-- attributed to Thomas Jefferson

"As you journey through life,
take a minute every now and then
to give a thought for the other fellow.

He could be plotting something."

--Hagar the Horrible

You know, Ana -- you're even more right. I hadn't realized just how appropriate 'Ode' was to SL until you pointed it out. It's one of my utter favorites for the music of the imagery invoked when one takes the time to read it through.

Maybe it should be our patron poem ;) (to shamelessly mangle a metaphor)

"Even if there is a God, he's one mean son of a bitch, and I don't want anything to do with him."

"If I knew I was going to be tourtured and killed at 12AM today, and I had nothing with me but a keg of beer and a naked woman to last me the 12 hours I'd got, I'd get more drunk than I've ever gotten, and I'd f*** her like you'd never know. Goddaammit, there's no point in dying if you ain't even lived."
