From: Cristiano Midnight The thing is that EVERY single listing in Find is an ad. Do you not use find at all? And see my reply to Ingrid, I agree with you about a useful listing. I just don't think it needs to be an either or situation. Actually no, not really. Except the people bit if I need to IM anyone.

From: MrsJakal Suavage Just to make it clear Cris, I was not bashing with starting this poll. Just was curious to see how successful it was. Could it also be that maybe you have had an increase in sales lately due to the fact that you have recently released various new products within the last month? How can you be so sure that it is because of the advertisement? Huggerz, MJ During the first 2 week period i had not released anything new - and there was a 300% bump in sales for that 2 week period - so I can pinpoint it to the ad or just a lot of people suddenly clamoring to dance upside down.

From: Kris Ritter Good morning MJ. It's true. Totally true! This list has zero value to me. The Linden Top Picks, whilst not updated often, was at least of some use. And everyone whined about playing favorites and stuff. So they replaced it with yet another pay for service that makes it effectively useless, and yet no one seems to be whining that it favors the fetid money changers yet. I guess they must all be still busy whining about ratings DAMN those fetid money changers! How DARE they spend time and effort making interesting and creative things that I want and not give them away for free!

From: Jonquille Noir I've never looked. It just never even occured to me. You should consider a spot there if you can get one cheaply - I love your store - Siggy's slow dance cannot get enough promotion in my book.

It's a hell of a drain on my account having to continually buy all this cool stuff I mean, I earned my money fair and square. Why should I have to now spend it on other people's content?! Where's my free money, Lindens???

We should all get 50,000 lindens a day, so we can sit around and have nothing to spend them on! I want to pay my $9.95 a month for nothing, god damn it!

Nope, but then again I never looked at the Top Picks either....
And I only looked at the Leaderboards for comic relief.

I really like the Sponsored Links tab. I think it's important to have a place for SLers to advertise what they do or make -- besides the telehubs, I mean. Obviously it serves a very different purpose than the old "Top Picks" tab, but it it's a nice service to have.

I agree.
I also don't think the point of the ebay thing is for revenue (at least for now) but for a way to filter out the spam.

From: Marcos Fonzarelli I think you mean GIANT CUBE.
As in, "GIANT CUBE cured my athlete's foot!!" I suggest they put some kind of jumping bean script in a big cube. Then they could advertise it as a GIANT HYPERCUBE har dee har har

How about Hamlet's NWN?

I haven't been here long enough to miss the Top Picks... but Hamlet's blog does highlight new places from time to time. Anyone have thoughts on how they compare?

From: Cristiano Midnight The thing is that EVERY single listing in Find is an ad. That's debatable if you think of an ad as something you pay a significant amount of money for. It's a listing maintenance fee. A listing in find comes out to about 25 US cents for two weeks. A little different from $20+ US dollars which definitely qualifies as an ad.

A listing in find comes out to about 25 US cents for two weeks. A little different from $20+ US dollars which definitely qualifies as an ad. The purpose of any listing in Find is to attract users to that place - be it a store, park, club, or whatever else. Whether the fee is $0.25 or $25.00, it is still advertising, hence an ad. Free ads are still ads - so are low cost ones. The sponsored links are more expensive because of their placement - but they are no more or no less of an ad than anything else in the Find-->Places listings, or the land for sale, which does not even have a fee.

I'm really glad you like the store, and I agree that Siggy's dances are great. (Just wait until you see his next one! I'm so excited, but no spoilers!) I'm notoriously cheap though, as far as RL money is concerned. I don't really have a personal opinion on the sponsored links one way or another since I've never remembered to check them, but I don't think I charge enough for my items to warrant the extra expense. I'd have to have a HUGE increase in sales to make them worthwhile for me. If I sold expensive items, I'd probably give it a shot.
