I was driving down to my local convenience store to buy some nicotine, and NPR's All Things Considered was on my radio (yeah... I'm one of those whose car radio is tuned to NPR more often than not), when to my surprise, I heard a story on Second Life.

It can be found here.

More to the point... SMART newbs coming. :-)

When I listen to NPR, I call it "Smart Radio"... when I listen to Philly sports talk... I call it "dumb radio"! :-)

Very cool. Yay Bel! :) I took a glance at the SL in the News page last night for the first time in quite a while. There's a great thing in PopSci, an excellent reference on the MSNBC site, and did you know Linden Lab was named one of Red Herring's Top 100 Innovating Companies? How cool is that?! Excellent press lately.

More comments in the thread posted by Postmark yesterday.

Not being snarky about the double post, Ace. It's just that Bel posted on that one and folks might be interested.

Wow! I just listened to the audio. Cool stuff. Nice tour Bel, thanks!

I agree with the comments re: smart media. I always imagined a great milestone would be when we got NPR interested - well here we are!

(Woops this is actually Philip Linden, accidentally posting as Robin cause I am using a laptop she was using)

What? You don't think Angelo engages on high-brow conversation on 610WIP? ;)

I find it odd that an extremely visual medium like Second Life would get coverage in a radio news report. Somehow, they actually did a good story. I can actually see people looking up Secondlife.com to check it out further.

I think Gloria Hillard did a really nice job with the story. Second Life is not an easy thing to describe, much less by radio.

Torley, I'm sorry, there was no Tringo when this interview was done. This took place in early November. Obviously there was soooooooooooo much more I could have shown her, but the interview was only for about an hour, and some of that was just focused on the avatars, the interface and building basics.

Thanks to Catherine Omega, Ezhar Fairlight and other folks that hung out during the interview. Gloria loved seeing the unique avatars, new animations and all your toys.

Robin, your voice is teh sexy! (and yours too Philip!)

Very good story, Gloria did do a great job on this, one of the better non-textual media covers of SL.

Excellent work by residents too! Bel, Robin, and Hamlet. :)
