I hope I am not asking a stupid question, but what is Festivus? Really I don't know what that is. :)

Festivus, the holiday for the rest-iv-us!

Basically festivus is in opposition to christmas. Instead of a tree we have a bare aluminum pole, White or unfinished.

Second, family members take turns telling eachother how much they tick them off and why, usually done at festivus dinner.

The last ceremony and the one that ends festivus is when the head of the family picks another family member to wrestle them, unless that person remembers they have something better to do. Festivus is not over untill the head of the family is pinned by the person that they picked.

My favorite song is O Tannenbaum.
But that is because of the old SNL sketch where the christmas tree would come to life and kill people and leave a branch sticking out of the person.
It became a favorite family memory too because one year our dog was dead asleep on his back on the couch and my dad positioned a tree branch so it looked like the christmas tree next to him got him. :)

Saddest Christmas song ever.... :(

Christmas, by Fuzzy

Its colder in this house than anywhere in Boston
Thats ok christmas means little to me
I'm hanging onto you and I don't know why
I dont have faith in whats supposed to be

Keep telling me over and over
The same old things I keep telling myself
Keep telling me over and over
How will you tell me if I change my mind

You made me cry, yeah for the last time
Thats ok christmas means little to me
Its not the darkest night I have spent alone
Youre not the only one I will never see

Its a silent night and all the lights are low
Thats ok christmas means nothing to me
Wont have you over, and you wont call
Nothing sure ain't here that you'll ever see

kk my favorite Christmas Song is Oh, Come All Ye Faithful... tho it shouldn't be reserved just for Christmas *G* . Almost anyone who sings it is my fave but I love the Celine Dion Duet as well as Pavarotti's version because it includes the latin version. * drool* Anyhow... for Christmas music in general .. Mannheim Steamroller or Transyberian Orchestra.... ROX

David Bowie and Bing Crosby doing a lovely duet of "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy".

I have the .MP3, which was recorded on a TV Christmas special many years ago, if anyone wants it.

A Midnight Clear
12-22-2004 14:28
Especially the haunting version sung by Sam Phillips at the end of the movie of the same name. I can't even read these lyrics without crying:

It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold
Peace on the earth, goodwill to men, from heav'n's all gracious king
The world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurl
And still their heavenly music floats, O'er all the weary world.
Above its sad and lowly plains they bend on hovering wing
And ever o'er its Babel sounds the blessed angels sing.

O ye, beneath life's crushing load, whose forms are bending low
Who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow
Look now for glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing
O rest beside the weary road and hear the angels sing.

For lo the days are hastening on, by prophets seen of old
When with the ever circling years shall come the time foretold
When the new heaven and earth shall own the prince of peace their King
And the whole world send back the song which now the angels sing.

Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling

Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
Kling, Glöckchen kling!
Lasst mich ein ihr Kinder,
ist so kalt der Winter,
Öffnet mir die Türen,
Lasst mich nicht erfrieren
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
Kling, Glöckchen kling!

Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
Kling, Glöckchen kling!
Mädchen hört und Bübchen,
Macht mir auf das Stübchen,
Bring euch viele Gaben,
Sollt euch dran erlaben!
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling

:)and this:
Schneeflöckchen, Weißröckchen

Schneeflöckchen, Weißröckchen,
wann kommst du geschneit,
du kommst aus den Wolken,
dein Weg ist so weit.

Komm setz dich ans Fenster,
du lieblicher Stern:
malst Blumen und Blätter,
wir haben dich gern.

Schneeflöckchen, du deckst uns
die Blümelein zu,
dann schlafen sie sicher
in himmlischer Ruh.

I'm pretty sure that one was a Twisted Tune done by the Bob Rivers Show in Seattle.

Their website has a ton more songs:

Thanks, Marcos!

A lovely duet by Shane MacGowan and Kirsty McCall. Fairytale Of New York

Oh yeahhhh, Fairytale of NY is one of the greats. I also like:
2000 Miles - The Pretenders
Last Train to Christmas - April March

I got an excellent Christmas CD by Leon Redbone, a cool n' smokey blues singer. He and Dr. John make a hoot out of Frosty the Snowman.
