What a tremendous testament to the postive impact a man can have upon his son. Thank you for the privilege of sharing your story. May you and yours find comfort in the beauty that was this man's life.

Bob

Paying tribute the way you just did is just tremendous! I sympathize completely with what you have said as my father also was in the Navy in WWII (he was a communications officer) and was even involved in the battle of Midway. My father too has medals but he has always been very private about them and has never shown me them before (although I did catch a look at them when I was a kid. he also has that medal). He also has Leukemia and has had a battle with cancer too, which he did actually beat too.

Paying tribute the way you have warms my heart, as you are also paying tribute in a way to those who are suffering under similar circumstances, and for that I humbly thank you for my Father, myself, and those others in the same boat so to speak. The best I could do as tribute in SL was to buy a navy outfit and wear it in honor of my Dad.

Thank you good sir and may your holidays be a joyous one if at all possible...... Thank you.....

"Robert Benchley came out of a night club one evening and, tapping a uniformed figure on the shoulder, said, 'Get me a cab.' The uniformed figure turned around furiously and informed him that he was not a doorman but a rear admiral. 'O.K.' said Benchley, 'Get me a battleship.'" - New Yorker, Jan. 5th, 1946

Bob,

Very sorry to hear your sad news, and all my sympathy goes out to you and yours.

He sounds like genuine hero, and you have every reason to be proud of being his son.

Take care,

Selador

I'd like to add something, but I think that everyone else here has said everything I could think of.

Instead, I'll just add my own condolances. Your father, and your family will be in my prayers.

Sio.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

Your father was a hero. More than just a hero to his family. I can now see what made you the man we know and love. I am sure he is very proud of you too.

I lost my father some years back and also lost the reason I tried so hard to prove myself. Losing a parent is more than losing a friend. It is like losing a part of yourself. It leaves a big gap in your life.

If there is anything we can do, just ask.

All our love

My heaart goes out to you Bob. I wept when I read your tribute. My Dad just moved in with me- he was in the Navy in WWII also - a Naval Pilot. Once again - very private and quiet about his tour of duty. You are so eloquent in describing your Dad's service to others - it was a time of heros - so much so, that it seemed just average to them - amazing truly. My Father fades too - I am blessed to have this time with him and am reminded every day of that - thanks Bob.

Bob, my personal condolences to you and your family.

The United States of America and all of us that love this country, will forever owe a great deal to the great generation your Dad was a part of and all the sacrifices they made to make this country what it is today.

With him and with the many other men and women in his generation that have also left us, go the memories of true hardship and quiet valor. Lest we never forget them.
