Will Anyone Be Playing Horizons?

Okay - SL is wonderful and I don't expect to devote huge amounts of time to any other game. That said, I miss some of the storyline and gaming aspects of MMPORGs and have decided to give Horizons a try when it comes out on Dec. 10. Is anyone else going to be playing? Always more fun to play with folks than alone!

I think the first month is free - but only after you buy the fifty dollar software! I can't help it - everyone says it groundbreaking and I'm addicted to checking out what's out there. Let me know if you do decide to play!

Yeah Bhodi I hear you. Sometimes this gets a bit bland. Aside from the whole gnome/hippo thing there isnt an actual "world" here, theres a lot of people, sure, and a lot of different projects that can be cool or useful but it sometimes feels more like an application. I've had it pre-ordered for a while, so I will be exploring it. We should plan an SL meet-up.

We should definately plan on a meet-up. Anyone in beta want to name a server so we can all start in the right place?

I've read on stratics that the server names in Beta aren't the official names. We should pick a server when it goes live.

I DO however know that there will be a Roleplaying server, and I plan to play on that one with at least one of my characters.

Not so much because I like to roleplay, I mostly just stay IC, but because Roleplayers give a better sense of theme.

Great - I'm all for playing on the RP Server - I actually like the RPing part of the game.

Right now, I'm leaning towards playing a gnome and focusing on my crafting skills. (Although since I haven't played the game that may be a nerfed choice or a wrong way of thinking - looks like crafting still requires adventuring, and not sure if gnomes are good at that...) But I could easily be swayed by anyone else's playing choice so as to fit in with a group that was forming!

I plan on playing briefly 'cause I preordered and prepaid for the thing and feel like AE put a lot of work into it and should be rewarded. That being said, it'll likely be brief unless they add all sorts of fun to the gold disk that wasn't in beta.

Hmm, having read their website, it sounds like just another average MMORPG, with no exciting new features (if you ignore the typical marketing hype blabla and hooray you can be a dragon).

Recently trying FF XI, I found that I don't feel like investing huge amounts of time busying myself with repetetive tasks or artificially delayed ways of traveling. SL probably has spoiled me :)

I'm still waiting for the MMORPG revolution. Maybe it will spring from SL :)

If I do try it out, i'll try out a Dragon player character. Which is, as far as I know, a first in an online game.

I agree with you Ezhar. After watching a friend of mine fool around with FFXI for awhile....and then quit after the level grind got to him; no matter how pretty they are it seems, mechanically even the newer MMORPGs haven't changed much at all. I don't see a change with Horizons (i almost feel funny saying that being how it's been in dev for like what? 5 years?) Dragonempires, certainly not WOW or LineageII....although the bouncy female body parts got my attention from playing the beta.

In the end, you can create all those looks here more or less, all without the painful levelgrind the griefers and the non-impactual persistant universe they exist in.

yeah, but there are no bouncy female parts in SL.
Even with lots of 'gravity' they stay in one place....

I just looked at the horizons website and I must say the game is really cool looking and I want to play.

But.....
I hate it when the spiders only have 6 legs, not 8. (check out the monsters page). It looks like a walking wasp.
(I grew up with a father who loves all spiders and I check for 8 legs as a habit).

I'm going to try it out. I love the idea that it has animals for one thing and the screenshots are very attractive.

Since I"m taking a break, I won't be on the boards either! But look for me when Horizons goes public (Dec. 10th if my pre-order comes in on time!) on the RP Server. I"m going to start out with a gnome named Amma Gearweaver - the crafting system is what most appeals to me in the game, so I'm going to focus on that. Would love to have some other SLers to play with, and maybe even build our own town! THen we can neglect it, spend all our time in SL, and blame eachother.

Relee? Are you meeting folks on Dawn? If not, Expanse seems to be the ACTUAL RP server, where as Dawn is simply the highest population server. I've played on both, and Expanse just isn't as laggy or filled with dragons named "Puff" or "Smokind00d"!
