Congrats on your new position! I think this is a natural step in SL's growth, and frankly, I can't believe you've managed to wear both hats for so long.

I'm hoping Macromedia doesn't go down the path of Adobe now. Some of the tactics Adobe has been employing in version 7 of their Acrobat Reader are worrysome, and I think Photoshop CS was an extremely buggy, unreliable, and horrific release (I've stuck with PS7). I hope this trend does not carryover to Fireworks, Flash, etc.

Take care,

-Flip

What can I say? Welcome to SL, "David Linden", and congratulations on your new job, Robin :)

I think that the apparent ease with which Linden Lab is recruiting their board & director members from top-notch and well-known industry-movers shows how the spotlights are turned to Linden Lab :) -- at least for a while. I'd say, the industry is curious about LL. Most still don't know what to expect, but are not dismissing it entirely. I mean, there must be a *good reason* why LL has been able to attract so many talented people to work with them :) Rumours say that it certainly isn't because of the awesome salaries being paid :)

Maybe it's all Philip's charm? :)

Or is it that skeptics are slowly turning into "indifferent, but curious" types? I'm just wildly speculating, my own conversations about SL among IT-related people (marketeers, visionaries, industry-pushers, and even techies) show that the number of skeptics is about 99%, and only 1% are "curious". I think most believe that Linden Lab has an awesome idea and a platform to implement that idea - but they aren't sure if they'll be able to pull it off, even with the slow, sustained growth of the past few years. Virtual Realities are not for everybody. But then again, I guess that people who started to use mobile phones or even Internet email two decades ago had to overcome the barrier of skepticism. I remember those days :)
