I'm not going to take the chum in the water about the IP issue, which can be continued out outside blogs :D

Let's just deal with this:

From: someone
The post didn't seem so bad to me

OK, well here it is, rehashed. It contains at least 10 assertions, all of them harsh judgements on other people, all of them assumptions about who they are and why they are here, all of them a certain reaction based on entirely subjective opinion, designed to spark angry justification in some, hurtful silence in others, scorn in still others, but not really asked with good will for trying to understand one's fellow man:

From: someone
o I read some past threads and it seems these posts are made by the same posters who appear to be intent on instigating a confrontation.

The forums have at least 700 members if not more, numerous hundreds of whom post, and looking at any slice-of-life on a week or three weeks is inaccurate.

From: someone
o Out of curiousity I started looking at the members online section of the forums and noticed that some the SAME PEOPLE are in the forums every single time I checked.

People leave the page logged on sometimes. And they post. So? It's not a trend LOL.
From: someone

o Do those who like to inflame and instigate arguments do it for the attention?

No. Do you?

So
From: someone
me like to post threads that essentially say “look at me and tell me I am funny or important.”

That's your judgement and assumption. Are you certain it is an accurate one?

From: someone
o Others post threads that are designed to sling insults at other members.

Do you know what came before that? Can you tell the context? Do you think you're equipped to know?

From: someone
o I think some people need to belittle others in order to elevate themselves.

Could be, that's often the case, could also be that some people are delivering a smackdown that is long-deserved to people who may have behaved badly.

From: someone
o How do people find all this time to be on the forums, lurking and waiting for posts so they can reply and get attention or cause a fight.

I often idly wonder that myself. But then I catch myself noticing that if I am here to wonder that, then the same could be asked of me :D So that ought to be *your cure* for wondering that about others :D

From: someone
o Is it just attention whoring?

No, I'm willing to credit most people with a sincere desire for discussion and engagement based on their very vital interest in this game.

From: someone
o Do they have no real life?

Caring about the vital issues of this game aren't necessarily a marker for "having no real life". This is one of those currencies-of-realm -- the harsh accusation that someone has no life and is just some 400 pound geek living in his mom's basement (surely Nolan or pandrastrong will have that picture available to post now).

I've found that some of the 400 pound geeks living in their mom's basement that I've found on the Internet are actually interesting people and their lives and mine are enriched by the Internet.

From: someone
o People who are on browsing and lurking on the forums almost EVERY waking hour, even when they are working! , and reply to every thread almost always with gibberish, why do you do that?

Maybe...for the same reason that makes you burn to ask this question? :D

From: someone
o Don’t you get enough attention in real life

You asked that already. And the answer is: sure do.

Yeah, I liked your analogy to the machine gunner. Some people think the answer to machine-gunning is to run for cover.

Other people think returning fire appropriately is the answer. Especially effective fire that renders the machine gunners spray useless. I think my arguments are persuasive.

Especially this one: if you have to ask in the middle of the day what people are doing in a forums and why they have the time to answer on forums, then you're a ready-made knockover for the question: why do you? :D

I prefer an accurately lobbed artillery shell for taking out a machine gun emplacement. But that's just me :D

Yeah i'm here almost every waking hour, I keep the forums up in the background at work AND home, I must be evil.

I do it cos I like to keep afoot of what is going on, oh and yes, thats it, boredom.

I may post crap, I may post often , but I am me, and I like it here.

I just wanted to say that, having only been on here about 2 days, THANK YOU to everyone for giving me the opportunity to witness a flash of the drama I've heard so much about.

I'm so glad I didn't miss it this time!

But ... is that all there is to it?

No, there will be more soon.

I am just waiting for the perfect moment to publish my "Heidi Fleiss, Second Life edition" list of people who frequent escorts.

Well, Silvergirl only has 2 forum posts on record ever and I think it would be unfair to judge her so quickly. If her posts for the next month are constructive and helpful, they will set the context to help us understand her tone in this post (in a positive light!). On the other hand, if this post launches a long forum career of lies, conspiracy theories, character assassinations, marginalization of groups, and streams of profanities...well I don't think we have to worry about the Lindens letting that happen. :D

Even that other fellow, Prok. I sat quietly for a good month, reading his posts and taking it all in before I ever said word. Everybody deserves an initial benefit of the doubt.

Well, I always appreciate fresh impressions from people coming in fresh, even if they are alts.

I listen to Silvergirl's fresh impressions, I realize they are judgements, I don't agree with the judgements, and I challenge them. If you think she gets 30 days to be judged, I think I get 30 days to be judged by her, too :D

Except all of that is silly. This isn't some kind of apprenticeship game, at least not for me. A two=day old player can have brilliant insights and demonstrate fantastic building skills and a 2-year old player can be as dense as a post.

Whether or not someone's forum posts are lies or conspiracies or character assassinations, instead of factual reporting and analysis, can be judged by historians. I wouldn't think that any group that had all the pictures they have on this website and all the profiles they have on this website could be :marginalized: by anybody...but like I said, my lobotomy stitches haven't healed completely and some brain connective tissue still flinches.

I see what you're saying. I'm always happy to agree to disagree. That's what I like about the very recent change in tone here in the forums. Differences of opinion can be discussed politely (as you and I are doing) and need never spiral into a vicious stream of conspiracy-by-acronym filled hatred.

Things have been rough here in the forums lately (I noticed you haven't been around since the middle of April) You returned JUST in time to see things turn around for the better!

I'm a government employee... I get paid to do nothing.

And the State gets their money's worth!

Why right now, I should be helping people fill out their DMV license forms - but here I am!!

afterthought: This goes out to the men -- DO NOT flirt with DMV employees... its annoying, obnoxious, and gets old fast. Also, please stop using tired pick up lines... Yes, I know you have a car... thats why you're at the DMV. Duh!

Yes I have a new found fun lurking here and go back a month or two. It is very impressive how much so many people have to say and can be overpowering to try to figure out the background of so much that happens here. Usually I just give up.
