Do you feel that their is a hierarchy in Second Life society?
If there is do you think that this hierarchy is based on building skills or something else?
My friend and I were having this conversation today and I felt that me being a novice user not completely familar with all the capabilities of SL that there is a heirarchy present. He didn't agree with me but he is also a very experienced user of second life. Let me know what you think on this issue. It would be greatly appreciated in helping each of our arguments!!

Dons plate armor, climbs up to the roof and sits on the edge, pops the lid on the first bottle of Corona, squeezes in a quarter-lime, and waits for the fun to begin.

Personally, I don't believe that there is, although it seems quite a few new users would disagree. I think sometimes the fact that so many of the older players know each other because we've been seeing each other around for ages makes newer people feel like there's some kind of class system. A lot of us also happen to have formed pretty strong opinions about a lot of issues from having hashed them out many times already. Beyond that, nope.

Yes, there is everyone else, and then Prokofy Neva, in that order.

I think in any social place you'll have some form of status and/or class.
In SL there are naturaly some forms of this and some "cliques", but again I don't think you'll find any place that won't have these.
However in SL alot of "upper class" or "high status" users are open and social with those of "lesser"ness. People seem to more be judged on how they act towards others and less of other things in SL (atleast from what I've witnessed).

I agree Oz, but I think it works in reverse here. I don't really know of any well known oldbie players that think of themselves as some kind of upper echelon. That gets attributed to them by others. This is how I see it anyway.

Of course there's status. Maybe not classes persay, but definatly status. And it's based on popularity, skill, or money.

From: Rickard Roentgen Of course there's status. Maybe not classes persay, but definatly status. And it's based on popularity, skill, or money. Only if you place importance on those things. Don't assume that everyone does. I think it's a minority view more common to those who don't feel they have those things than a view held by those who do. You could just as easily say there are classes based on avatar height. It's only important if you make it that way, and there's no reason to do that, because... well... it's really not important.

Personally I have no class.
As for the rest --- status blah blah money blah blah popularity blah blah - nope... couldn't give a shit abou those things..
I'm here to enjoy myself... and thats pretty much it... and me enjoying myself isn't really all that dependant on anyone other than myself.
Siggy.

I would say there is a social strata that exists but it is hard to pin down as it is always shifting and most of the time it is generally a separation between the Oldbies and the Newbies.
