If you haven't been to the main page lately (and many of us don't, having set our bookmarks farther in than that) The Second Life Game Developers Contest 2005 has been announced!

I'm entering again this year, and I already have my idea. I just need to assemble a team of superhumans to aid me in my plans of world dom-... Uh, to help me put it together. :)

Who else has an undeveloped game idea that they want to submit?

*CRY*

I'm on the outside looking in on this one. I couldn't script my way out of a wet paper bag. Maybe I could make "Crash-a-sim". My scripts are good at that. :(

I need an artist for textures and a good builder on my team. I'll probably do most if not all of the scripting.

Who all won last year? Are the winning games still in-world?

Team Artifex (Xylor Baysklef, myself, Hiro Yamamoto, and Ananda Sandgrain) took 1st place last year. Our product, referred to as either Classic Games Park or Classic Games Parlour, lives in Fuchsia. Other entries included Tiger Crossing's game Deus Via and Bonecrusher Slate's game, which I think is called Route 66 Demolition Derby. Both of them are next door in Celadon.

Another one that I remember is Fantastic Journey, a great title put together by Moleculor Satyr and some others. It doesn't exist anymore as far as I am aware. Dave Zeeman put together a classic "two castles hurling stuff at each other" game as well. Some folks I don't know put together a maze called Pet Trap, and Tcoz Bach built a game around terraforming or something like that.

I can't speak for my fellow Artifexen, but I'm pretty busy right now. I might have some time to work on projects like this in a month or two. I'd be primarily interested in doing environmental stuff (landscaping, lighting) and data infrastructure (wide-area networking and offworld data storage/logic.) I am also good at building just about anything electronic- or mechanical-looking, as well as buildings and furniture. Time will be tight though, as I usually have several projects going on, so I would prefer to work with people who have a solid understanding of building and scripting.

Must... resist... urge... to... build... game.

I'm doomed. Scripter LFG - unless a little bird snatches me up for a current work-in-progress.

Actually, one question I have: Will this apply only to games developed specifically for the contest? Because if not... my guess is Tringo will, without a doubt, win.

Edit: Nevermind:

2. Eligibility of Entry - the contest entry (i.e., the game developed in the course of the competition) must be the original work of the submitting team, and will be disqualified if it has been previously published, released, or has been entered in another competition, whether in whole or in part. No infringing works will be knowingly accepted, and any works which are determined by Linden Lab, in its sole discretion, to actually or likely infringe the rights of others will be disqualified. In addition to following the rules of the contest, competitors are required to follow the normal Second Life Terms of Service and Community Standards, which may be changed from time to time in Linden Lab's sole discretion.

Lordfly, I hope you make it. And let me know if you want a hand somehow. I think an RTS would really work, I've just not nutted out a concept yet.

I sorta have a concept for a pan-SL game, but don't know if it will work.

I also am starting a team up for this. I'm going to do scripting, and I am getting a professional 3D modeler to join up with me. If any secondary scripts / modelers / anything else want to join up, send me an IM in-world.

If anybody needs a builder, feel free to IM me in games. I'm also pretty good at problem solving, and figuring out new ways of doing things. IM me or PM me with your ideas.

Well, I'm bad with scripting, but I have a lot of good ideas.

Thanks for the heads-up Tiger.

Looking forward to seeing all the entries.

Lordfly, RTS sounds fun. On the one hand it can take advantage of the 3d world of SecondLife, and on the other hand it can probably be fairly exploit-free. I might be potentially interested in helping out with scripting.

I have a great idea for a game called Chesstringo it combines chess, tetris and bingo all in one... the rules and game play are a bit fuzzy but I'm sure it can be worked out. Another game I think might go well with SL is Ringo, it combines Rugby and Bingo, but again, the gameplay aspects are in need of work.

I'm thinkin', always thinkin'.

I'm looking forward to seeing all the entries this year! Unfortunately, I am a bit busy to join in the fun this year. =/

Good luck, everyone!
