It's amazing how someone relatively broke like me, and living in a relatively poor country, can have a quality of life that immensely surpasses that of an ancient king.
I just ate a wonderful slice of passionfruit pie. But the thing is, we dont have that kind of fruit here. It came from the other side of the friggin world! From places that were unknown and mostly uninhabited a few centuries ago.
Earlier today, I studied a wide variety of obscure mathematical topics on wikipedia for my test tomorrow. Imagine, as recently as 10 years ago, this would have been impossible as the web was still being invented.
I dont have air conditioning, but if I did, I could magically change the temperature of my house without getting off this chair.
I'm writing this text now, that will instantly be available to thousands of people all over the world.
What would some primitive peasant from the middle ages say about this? It's sheer magic. We are wizards. Gods. Wielders of such an immense power that we have the ability to leave this very earth and travel to our surroundings. And yet, so limited that only the most immediate of our surroundings are within easy reach.
Makes you wonder, if I were forwarded in time like that peasant, what 28th century miracles would I be able to witness?

(No mind-altering chemicals were consumed prior to writing this message. Unless you count the passionfruit :D)

I think there are only about 100 people that are regulars in the SL Forums. ;)

Question is, where will we be in 50 years?

The ancient Greek gods were petty and vengeful. So really, we already do act like gods.

Greeks are but one pantheon - there are others that we can emulate...

Goddess of Respect
God of Honesty
Goddess of Gentle Truth
God of Kindness
Goddess of Beauty
God of Silence
Goddess of Laughter
God of Joy
Goddess of Dance
God of Music
Goddess of Nourishment
God of Work

*Stopping now*

Just yesterday I was making a photocopy and I had a mindflash of a medieval monk hunched over his desk, painstakingly hand lettering/copying a sacred book. I looked at the freshly photocopied sheet on the output tray and just shook my head in wonder.

My mother's official job title is "Queen of All She Surveys". (No, really, it is. Except on the Federal Grant Application, where it is not! <grin>;)

I have therefore usurped for myself the title of "Princess of a Good Many Things".

If you want to be a god, then you need to come play Deus Via in northern Game Dev 3! :D

I really need to finish that backstory post... I SO wish I hadn't lost it. I hate having to re-write prose. It never comes out as good.

Yet despite our seemingly great advances, something as simple as leaving our planet escapes the means of the majority. And even then, those that have left must return shortly there after. We humans might as well be nothing more than a bacteria colony until we escape this petri dish and spread through the galaxy or further.

I'm hoping we've at least colonized mars or Titan or some solar body by the 28th centrury. I think if we put our minds and hearts to it, we just might be able to accomplish one of those in 700 years. Oh, that and replace all utensils with sporks.... :)

The human race IS a virus, and now you are advocating that we infect the rest of the universe.

heh, the virus does not chose its nature, it is nature that choses the virus.

How do you know that? Have you ever TALKED to a virus?

Given your statement that the human race is a virus and my assertion that I've talked to part of the human race, then yes. :) Though the nature of something isn't something wholy learned by talking to it, usually you just listen and it will tell you.
