As some of you know, I am in between houses and do not have broadband access and no SL until 4/3. This how night one went.
5:30- Arrive at my temporary home after a long days work.
5:35- Set my computer up on a table.
6:00- Run out to KFC to get some grub
7:00- My kids are going nuts, I search the small space we are living in ths month for a Private office like I had in my old house but the closet just is not big enough.
7:30- Do some work on Poser, plan on returning with a great collection of new gestures and animations.
8:00- Get the kids to settle down and get ready for bed.
8:30- Poser just isnt enough, I need a way to get on SL.
9:00- Spend a long while in the bathroom. Side effect of KFC.
9:45- What the hell Ill try to connect using Dial Up.
10:00- SL crashed, dial up is a no go.
10:30- Hook up my X-Box, beat the shit out of some bad guys to get rid of some fustration.
11:30- For the first time since 12/25/03(my SL birth date) I am in bed at a normal hour.
If I dont make it through these three weeks. I hope you all remember me in my happier days.

Maybe there should be a SL lite version that could be reached through dialup- I'm picturing a crude black and white aproximation of the grid, lacking details. That way us addicts could visit the grid- to an extent- when we don't have a decent connection.

I'm wondering what I would do without SL..... No, don't want to go there.
It'll get better.

In the long long ago, there was a resident named Shebang Sunshine who lost her broadband connection. But her love for SL was such that she attempted (and succeeded..sort of) to connect to SL with a computer, a modem and some duct tape. Anyway, a new term was coined "shebanging" for actually connecting and functiioning (sorta) to SL with only a dial-up connection. It may no longer be possible, but there are some tips in this thread on ways to tweak your system to maybe maybe maybe peek your head in the world and holler at your friends. Tips on the fine art of Shebanging It

*laughs* You just don't know how well I can relate! I have been without my own computer since March 2nd as I am also in the process of moving to a new house and at a temporary residence until this Friday (finally) - not only must I suffer with dial-up and my toddler twins...I can't even play with photoshop or anything except the occasional game of Spider Solitaire!!! That, forums, yahoo and Spongebob daily makes for quite a case of the SL DT's *sobs uncontrollably*

I'm on Day 2 without SL as well. Yesterday I actually played Resident Evil 4 on my gamecube that I bought about a month ago and haven't played yet lol. I will be without SL for until next week sadly. Then just when I get back to get my fix of SL again...then I have to leave to have surgery and will be away again.
I will miss all of you!

Shebanging *was* possible as of the last version. I did it quite a few times in order to talk to people on IM.
It's pretty simple - just set your draw distance and all the object and avatar detail settings to a minimum, mute all sounds, and wait for a very long time while your inventory loads. It helps to have a home setting that has virtually nothing in it.
You'll be able to talk on IM's all you want, but don't expect to move anywhere, let alone teleport. You'll probably crash if you have more than one other person at your location.

I never made it to night two, I pulled out my wireless network scanning thing and found a connection to get on. I was able to have SL for the entire two weeks after that night. I am now in my house gettinbg DSL setup as we speak. Life is good again.
