This was something that I remember being done over a year ago for implimentations of things when TSO was in Beta however, I would like to take it a step further. Only a percentage of people that play SL are here on the threads but a ton are intrested in the auctions and their outcoms.

So here is my proposal as a SIMPLE Vote just answer with a one word answer and on Monday we can Tally up the Votes and let LL see where the Community stand.

#1 Have anyone you know that doesnt post on threads come in and post their opinion it will help the overall outcome by getting a larger diversity of people here.

#2 Only POST your answer Once unless you decide to Retract it and if you do Just Edit your Reply.

#3 No Long outrageous posts or opinions we have other threads for that, that already cover the auctions this is just a simple voting one to get an concensus of Opinion.

OK THE QUESTION IS: SHOULD THE AUCTIONS BE AS THEY ARE (INCRIMENTAL BIDDING) OR ( SEALED BIDDING)?

Abreviations = IB or SB for those speed posters?

Voting is now Open and will close Monday 12 Jan Midnight PST

OK THE QUESTION IS: SHOULD THE AUCTIONS BE AS THEY ARE (INCRIMENTAL BIDDING),( SEALED BIDDING)OR (PROXY)?

INCREMENTAL BIDDING- Where one bids after viewing Last BID

SEALED BIDDING-Where one PUTS IN 1 BID SILENTLY

PROXY BIDDING-COMBINATION OF BOTH ALLOWING AN INDIVIDUAL TO HAVE A MAX BID SUBMITTED SECRETLY THUS ALLOWING THEM THE LAST BID IF THEIR MAX IS HIGHER THAN LAST INCRIMENTAL BID.

Sorry had to Update this to allow the third option and explinations of each for clarity of decision which I forgot if you would prefere the new addition just edit your Vote again my apologies for not having this in here at the begining.

Incremental.

..edit..
Proxy bidding would be great. I still prefer a hard deadline to end the auction.

Incremental, with a 5 minute extension every time someone places a bid, to emulate a live auction. :D

(Even without that, still incremental is better.)

I hope the Lindens are listening. Garoad got it exactly right. I vote the same way.

Extensions at the end would be fairer for the bidders (no under the wire madness) and the Lindens (the true market price for land would be more closely reflected.)

Incremental..

But I'd like a move to a proxy bid ala Ebay, where you can put in your maximum bid and not have to worry about being outbid in the last 10 seconds of the auction.

IB

That way, if I decide later that I will pay more for it, I can.

Not that I'm ever likely to use it but:

IB with extensions.

(I think Auction Sniper is an evil thing... cool... but evil. It'll happen, mark my words.) :D

24 hour incremental with 5 minute extentions and proxy amounts.

abbreviated: 24i5xp

clarification: a proxy raise will not prompt an extension.

Proxy bidding, open, like on ebay.

Extentions are pointless with this. You have 3 days to make up your mind how much you want to spend, and input your max to the proxy bid. If you feel you have to keep doing "just one more dollar" then it's a personal issue with sticking to your guns about your max bid :)

I would actualy like to see the following:

IB on some

SB on other more high costly items (sims and the like) that you KNOW will get high up there in price (now we know, we didn't before).

And for both of them, the option of Proxy (or have them both be, or one or the other be, proxy only).

And maybe Garoads thing somewhere in there too.

RL$ for land in SL via auctions is a disaster area. Proxy and so on will not fix this problem. Nor will Jan 12th. Land has always been in short supply in SL since day one, and unless they start opening two sims a week this will never change. The simple fact is that the game is now drastically tipped in favor of people that have more RL money. How is this good for SL as a game? To my knowledge even developer incentives are tied to land (via dwell).

Furthermore, if you have been in game longer, and done more (not just a 9.95 life cruiser) than the other guy, you should have some way to get a bigger piece of the pie. The way it currently stands, somebody in game for a month can own more land than the most senior and productive player if they are willing to pay the RL$ for it. Can't happen? Didn't a sim just sell for over ONE THOUSAND RL dollars to a relatively new player?

I'll tell you what would be interesting.

NOBODY bid on the next land plot. Not one bid. Wonder what they'd do with the land.

I am liking the way prims work on land now, well done. But this new method of expanding the world via grinding RL$ out of the player populace...for shame. It needs to be drastically altered.

I'm holding a little auction of my own. Small plot in Natoma, square, perfect for a build. $250 RL, via PayPal. Don't think I'll get it? Just watch.

proxy bidding, and sealed bid for big ticket items like a sim (or better yet, those items not be part of the auction at all).
