auctions on the sl website? i dunno, me and my roomies have bought alot of land and never dealt with a mythical Land Baron. i wouldn't recognize one if i saw it.

there's tons of places to rent apartments and little plots of land and such. look around or check the property rentals forum.

Well, we make "bennies" through GOM just fine, although this requires an extensive retailing network and promotions and can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Considering Linden Lab gives direct US$ incentives to land owners, it would be a little more fair for them to do the same for content creators. Run contests or something.

i thought they did give US$ to content people and not just through dwell. developer incentives or something?

You mean Dwelloper Incentives?

call me naive and such but i got to believe Linden gives developer incentive money to people who make awesome stuff that brings people into SL and makes it a cool experience and not just to people selling virtual ass in their shitbox clubs. we're getting all editorial and off subject though. I am sorry to tell you that you are wrong. The only people who get the 'developer' awards (now known as dwellopers) are given to those with the highest dwell - the top 2 percent share the US$ award. I have been in a club where the event host is begging people to get their friends to come to the club, even offering L$50 to whoever brings in a friend. Desperate to keep the club in the top 2 percent.

Its insane, stupid, pure madness but there you have it. When I see some of the things created by people in SL I think its a disgrace that the creators don't get anything at all. To name just two that come to mind - Cubey's amazing aircraft and airport - the scripts he writes for the aircraft are, I am told, absolutely the best. A build that springs to mind is heaven and hell in Krittana - simply astounding - heaven contains 3 levels of mind bogling beauty. These are just an example of what's out there.

Lindens have gone badly wrong on this.

They can only reward what's there, and right now the part scene is the in thing in SL.. so they reward it. That's ok by me, it just means those of us who like something different have a challenge on our hands. Rather than get upset, DO something.. MAKE something that gets people in the game and makes them go 'wow!'

That being said, I ADORE Cubey's work and it would be nice for SL do do quaterly awards for.. say, excellence, that take place alongside Dwell.

well i do what i do in SL for me and not for a reward. most of the stuff i make never gets seen by anyone but my roommates so it's not a big deal who gets rewards.

that being said, the developer incentives suck big ass if they're just for dwell.

you get more of what you encourage and this may step on some toes but the club scene in SL is so creatively and artistically backrupt it wouldn't recognize good taste if it showed up in avi form and walked right into their butt ugly box club. which it couldn't because they lag so bad good taste would be bumping into the walls outside waiting for the doorway to rez. thank the gods i didn't get sucked into that when i was brand new. i wouldn't still be here now.

anyway, i create cause it's fun and i get satisfaction from it. whether i get money or recognition doesn't make much diff to me. Pirate, you rock. great attitude.

Linden Lab has, in the past, awarded cash prizes for cool things built. It's usually done at a town hall...hasn't been done in a few months. It was (or is) an attempt at making the Developer Incentives more than Dwelloper Incentives.

Yup - they had several developer contests for non-dwell.. I know because I placed in the 'scripted newbie object contest' - also the game developers contest. I'm not sure if they have planned any more. Perhaps participation was low....
