A drinking event in SL?

Right, so.

I have a pub in Grignano, vaguely furnished with various pub-like regalia.

I have also noticed that there seems to be a rather sizable contingent of people that, like me, enjoy drinking some sort of potent potable while perusing the surreal landscape of SL.

Could we perhaps join the two into an event?

Some evening, set up an "event" where the only pre-requisite is that you want to socialize with a drink in hand. in RL, mind you... those silly drinks in SL don't count

Drink a beer or scotch while you think about it... I personally think it would be a fun time, a bunch of rowdy, drunk SLers bouncing around a brickwork pub.

I played a SL Drinking Game once. One shot of vodka each type Prokofy says FIC. After I was released from the hospital for alcohol poisoning, I said I would never read forums again, or was that drink vodka again? I can't remember

People like Lordfly should have designated simmers.

What is a designated simmer? The only simmer I know of is the kind that happens on the stovetop.

I'd be in for a drinking event, but only if it's on a weekend night and if I can drink something weenie like wine. I'm such a lightweight these days.

You know... this actually DOES remind me of the time FLipperPA got really drunk and fucked up Indigo.

Maybe responsible SL drinkers SHOULD hand the keys over to a designated simmer

I had a Aftershock drinking contest on webcam once with Phoenix Byrd, he got me to drink loads, then watched as I slowly fell asleep on cam, then dribbled

I'll have to show Aimee the SHINY RED INDIGO BUTTON. Crow was my designated simmer that weekend. After I passed out, he took care of cleanup with Andrew! (Thanks boys, like I said - it'll never happen again, hehehe)

We used to have quite a webcam drinking crew... Victoria Moonflower, Sukkubus, Launa Fauna, Jared, Kacey Anubis, Kazzy, Roc... I've cut back since quitting smoking though, because watching everyone light up on webcam simultaneously isn't healthy!

In The Sims Online, Paul Neruda, one of the main characters and founder of Sim Arts, invented this phrase "designated simmer".

In the Sims Online, you call your avatar a "sim". It's not that the land there is called a "sim". In fact, that's one of the ways you know that TSO is more about people and socializing because the main simulated thing is you, your avatar, called a sim, and the land is just called a "lot".

In SL, the main thing seems to be the inanimate land, so the "simulation" is mainly about the land, or "sim" -- and it's less about socializing. It's a telling fact.

So playing TSO is called "simming" from the verb "to sim" or to be a simulated being or avatar.

In TSO, it was common for people to be drinking or taking drugs because they didn't really have to concentrate or create much. They could just perch and click absently on their avatar to green him up or have him go work the job objects to make money to buy the food to green up again. Or skill. Pretty mindless activity! Perfect for being drunk and chatting!

However, you can get very abusive when drunk or do really stupid things so Paul thought up the term of "the designated simmer". Since he wasn't a drinker himself, he would sort of look out that people didn't do really stupid things like delete their lot by stupidly clicking on another land and moving their house or something.

My impression of SL was always that it wasn't really a drinking-man's game, because it requires you to be so alert and concentrated, working those building and design tools.

However, I guess Lordfly has maxed out the capacity of SL, has moved over to WoW and now SL is just a boring space to him that can only go down more smoothly with Scotch. Ah, the college life! So, like other FICs, I guess he has succeeded in TSO-ifying SL -- perching all the avs in one space, getting drunk, and being stupid. Something even the best of TSO refugees weren't able to accomplish! However, there's still time to copy Lordfly LOL.

In the meantime I hope he has a designated simmer so that he doesn't set his land for sale to $0 and sell it in a poker bet or something.
