I would rather have it be a floating window so you can position it however you want, MIDI's are sometimes hard to work with especialy when you have a bigger one. A button would work, having it update once you put in a new color would be best though, but agreed it would be harder to do, so a button would be just as good, the feature itself would rock to see a preview If the preview window was toggable also, so its not ALWAYS visible incase you don't need a preview. Keep in mind also that some things aren't uncolored, i.e. the button images for the main buttons are all a blue color right now. So if the preview window reflected this that would be good... Also if you select the button color property if the alpha or some other color window could have the same blue color that the buttons defaultly have, that would be awsome, this way we could see what color it will realy look like for those buttons. I also doubt that LL will come out with a built in image editor anytime soon, more likely it'll be 1.2.8 or 1.3 before a built in one (my guessing, could be totaly wrong on this). You totaly rock man, hope the holiday break is good for yah Happy Holidays!

Colors editor for all SL Platforms?
01-31-2004 08:06
This tool sounds cool ... but I am having tiny trouble running it on my SL platform, Macintosh (and maybe Linux later?).
Would anyone be interested in a Java version? I am willing to help -- would it work to port the existing program?
p.s. I love the Color Schemes library on SLUniverse.

Sorry I have abandoned all my pet projects for a while (6 of them), due to my girl and I breaking up and me hitting the clubs everynight instead of coding. I started working on some new features for the application this afternoon, and other than a date tonight, Ill be working on this project all weekend. We can probably expect a maintenance release on Sunday night, and the next major upgrade early this coming week. (Probably Tues) I could probably whip up a java port for all the Mac fans out there. (Ive never even turned one on myself.) I want to finish up these planned upgrades first however. I have been wondering if anyone is using this tool recently, and I have been checking the forums off and on, and i saw these new posts... So anyway, are there any features/updates/mods in particular that you guys want to see? Michael ... being single, seeing double, and sleeping triple ...

That preview thingy where it shows what the interface will look like with your changes would be cool. I can't think of anything else right now.

A load/transfer color settings feature.
How it works. You load your old color file from the previous version of sl and the tool adds whatever is missing in that file that needs to be there, or at least will take the colors you had in it and apply it to the new sl color file.
With them updating so often and occasionally adding or subtracting from the color.ini I think this would be usefull.
2) Custom color boxes, so you can save swatches (see common dialog color picker)
Just a few thoughts.

Due to linebreak changes in colors.ini files for SL version 1.2.10+ I had to make a modification to the editor. Heres a screenshot. Heres the download.Installation: -------------- This is a new installer. * If you have this installed already, uninstall it before installing this new version. * (it just makes life simpler) Unzip the downloaded file, run setup.exe. Again, this is an installshield installation, it's self-explanatory. SL Colors Ini Editor Version 5.0.0.5 Released February 02, 2004 ========================== New Features ------------ - Supports version 1.2.10+ colors.ini files. The line breaks in the colors.ini file changed when SL hit 1.2.10. They should now be edited in WordPad or this instead of notepad. - RGBA columns in the color list are now sortable. - RGBA values in the color list are now right justified. This was necessary for numeric sorting in the listview control. (google 'numeric listview sorting visual basic') - There is a 'preview' column in the list view. This does nothing right now, but will display what colors are used in the theme preview window that is coming in the next release. Corrections ----------- - Changed copyright to 2004. - Update the 'backup of colors.ini' file that comes with this application. Note: this application does not use it, but its there incase you screw all your copies up. Im thinking of taking it out, as I doubt anyone even knew it was there.

omg the preview rocks!!! Just in case you havent thought about it, but a setting to have it refresh every second or so so you can make changes and see the updates as you are changing them would be fantastic. But this is already an incredibly tool ) Thanks -Neil

*bump* this tools still around. There have been alot of new users, who probably had no idea it existed. By the way, this download includes the alpha version of the theme preview window. (Yes, it renders an SL scene with your modified color scheme, and No, its not perfect *yet.) I didnt post about the updates to the alpha preview feature on the official forums, but i did in www.sluniverse.com Oh, all the downloads in this thread point to the newest version. Michael

Ok, stupid question, but...
What does editing the colors.ini file let you change?

You can finally say goodbye to the ugly purple/black color scheme and change most of the colors of the SL user interface. For instance, attached is a screenshot of oz spades red color scheme.
