How so and so tries to rip off people

Today I logged on and was surprised to find land in Ontario for sale, at 5 L$ per sqm. To my even bigger surprise it was the land that the Ontario Retail Park has been built on.

This mall had been owned by Tim Rockwell and rented to me. I had prepaid him 14 weeks of rent for the whole building and rented some of the stores to Centre Ville merchants. Half the building and the rent box was still there, while half was destroyed, for whatever reason.

I checked the group that now owned the land and found it was Hank Ramos. So I contacted him and asked him what happened. He told me that the land had gone public and he bought it for 1 L$ per sqm.

I explained the situation to him, the obligations of Tim Rockwell towards me and the Centre Ville merchants and that most likely this must have been a bug or mistake by Tim. I suggested he return the land to Tim and even offered him 18000 L$ in excess to what he paid for the land when it went public, but he declined.

Then I finally gave in and agreed to buy him out, seeing no other choice given my obligations towards the people who rented stores in the building. But I was prepared to take loss here and allow Hank to greatly profitate, despite the situation not being my own mistake.

Then Hank Ramos increased the price of the land to 10 L$ per sqm. He doubled the price, compared to what he had set it to when I found the land for sale in first place. 10 L$ per sqm is ten times what he paid for the land when it was public. After I complained he set it to 7 L$ per meter, still trying to make hundreds of US$ from this.

My conclusion is that I am not going to pay even 1 L$ to Hank nor am I going to do any business dealing with him in the future. Instead of trying to resolve this and find one solution to situation where Tim made mistake, he even raised price after finding out the pressure this situation puts on some people. Without any ethics he is trying to rip-off money from those who have already been damaged.

Can the original owner speak up and admit it was a mistake? If not this entire post is slander.

Even if it would not have been mistake, the fact that Hank doubled price after talking shows how he try rip off people and take advantage of their situation.

I just saw that half of Garrison is now also for sale by Hank Ramos, the telehub land that was owned there by Tim before.

As I understand it

Tim dumps land.
hank finds and sets land price.
anshe contacts hank.
hank see's its telehub land (he flys about with only ground render on so i doubt he knew it was telehub land) and raises price acordingly [yes its a bit grey, but its telehub land so.]
anshe complains and thretens hank.
anshe then posts this.

Now im sorry im missing a point here , but if I buy a car with a lone, I then give the car to some one else. why should the next person to own the car have to pay my lone ?

Its realy first come first served with public land. Nothing you can do about it. (well you can post threads like this)

Hello everyone, just a few points...

1. Anshe, the land wasn't yours.
2. It "appears" Tim left SL by destroying half the build, releasing land, and leaving all his groups. Dunno. If he accidentally released it, he should be the one talking to me, not you.
3. If the land was released due to a server bug, I'd be more than happy to return it for nothing as long as LL refunds my money and reduces my tier.
4. I didn't jack the price because it was you, it was because I noticed it was telehub land after you called me over. L$10 is low for telehub. Would you have given me extra land because I incorrectly set the price at L$5? Was I an ass for doing that? Probably. But, business girl...business is business.
5. I have no obligation to lower the land price for you because the previous owner owes you money. Sorry, bad business decision on your part to prepay him so much money. Ask the Lindens or file an abuse report against him, not me.
6. I lowered the price to L$7 because you are pressuring me to lower it. Probably shouldn't have tried to lower it in the first place since I now see your tactics.

Am I going to make money? Probably. Everyone has their chance to. It was public land, which is open for anyone to fly by and purchase. Fair and square.

Wasn't that you, Anshe, a week ago who was tearing me apart for demanding that we hold the owner of SLEX to the highest standards?

I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt but your commitment to honest business practices only seems to exist when it affects your pocket book.

Besides it doesn't look like Hank did anything wrong, which means your post is a wee bit libelous.

LOL why is this thread unpleasant compared to any other? I'm not sure why this one bothers you so much I just see people telling Anshe there isn't much she can do here and that it seems to be ironic she'd complain about someone buying land for cheap and selling it for a lot based on demand.

At lease hank didn't break the land up into tiny peices.

I wouldn't lower the price, Hank. Your under no obligation here, and since Anshe has already resorted to libel, you can't hardly justify trying to "be nice".

Making money on land is not a crime. Everyone has a choice at what they set the price and everyone decides how much they will pay for a plot. A deal got negotiated and it still gets cried foul, doesnt make any sense.

This is the most ironic thread SL has seen or will see for many moons.

I'm not gonna take sides and try to determine who's right and who's wrong in this situation, but I will say this: you should know better than to complain about an individual on the forums. It's simply not right. If you have a problem with someone, it's between you and that person, no one else. Please do not bring such things here. Trust me, you don't gain the respect of your peers when you do.

I would like to think that when one has invested as much into SL as you have, one would understand the importance of keeping things prefessional and courteous at all times. However, when I read stuff like this, the first thing that goes through my mind is "Geez, I hope I never get on this person's bad side. I don't want to find myself on the receiving end of a post like this." That kind of feeling does not encourage me to want to have dealings with you, and as a tenant at your malls, that's really not a good thing.

I have faith that you are a better person than your post here would suggest. I'm hoping you'll take what I said to heart and understand that bringing personal disputes to a public forum benefits no one while it does significant harm to everyone. Remember the days when this forum was a place of healthy discussion and not the "bastion of intolerance" (as someone recently put it) that it currently is? Wasn't it a lot more fun back then? We all need to do our part to heal the forum. Please keep stuff like this out in the future.

Confirm Tim left SL. If so, you're SOL. Posting a bitch-rant (which you appear to do frequently) about Hank's business practices makes for a great troll, but resolves nothing.
