Ok, so the 2005 Prim Tour thread got me thinking, when are we going to have SLCON?
On a related note. do any of you attend gaming/geek related conventions? Personally, I'll be at defcon 0D this summer, as will others of you im sure. I guess im just vurious to know which conventions have the largest SL presence.

Activeworlds used to have an AW Reunion every year at a different city... they would reserve a block of rooms at a hotel and get a group discount for anyone who wanted to come... perhaps we could do something like that??

Nice idea. Made me interested to know where SLers live.

So I set up this poll.

What if I could get a good rate for all of us on a summer or autumn cruise? Granted, it's a few hundred bucks and you prolly wouldn't have access to SL the entire time, but it'd be cool, AND I'd get a minor commission and/or a free trip with enough people. :D

I've been trying to organize a SL meet around my area for a while now. I think most of the problem I've ran into is that not many people read the forums. Not enough to get a decent sized group around me in Kentucky together.

I'd be willing to drive to meet some SL people ... I used to drive to Canada every other year for a large multi-nation meet. Basically we'd all stay at the same place and drink , go out , have fun.

Someone's already created a Second Life meetup.com entry. Anyone can then create a sub-group based on wherever you live on the planet:

http://secondlife.meetup.com/

Currently there's only one in Huntsville, AL.

Meetup is great because it takes out a great deal of the footwork. Facilitates voting on locations and times etc. Collects RSVPs etc and it's all free.

Best regards,

We have gone to and have held several LAN parties.. do those count? We always have a great time meeting the people we've gotten to know in games.

Usually we have 20-30 people at any given time during the LAN so having it at a house isn't usually an issue. More than that I'd suggest booking a hotel for a group rate.

I went to an EQ Fan Faire when it was in my City - It was rather fun -

Some guy from Iowa was trying to get me drunk at dinner - rofl - I had a row of full wine glasses beside my plate as he kept ordering me more. Needless to say I had to drive home so only sipped on one.

Based on the RL pics posted here and the RL pics posted on the EQ forum I used to haunt - the ppl behind the keys are a different sort :)

It would be interesting to see if a gathering could be organized.

My preference is the New Jersey conventions, due to the demands from work sometimes.

That being said, Dexcon is once again in action (one of, if not the largest NE con in US).
http://www.dexposure.com/dexcon8.html

There is also the UberCon conventions, with a 20+ PC LAN at each one. Those are relatively nearby in Secaucus these days.

I attend Dexcon and the other Double Exposure cons rather religiously, and sometimes attend UberCon.

I think New York / Northeastern New Jersey would be an ideal setting for two reasons:
1. It's central to the northeast cooridor of cities, drivable from Boston to DC.
2. I live here, so I don't have to go far, yuk yuk yuk!

No, but seriously, if there's interest, I'd be willing to help make a NYC / NJ get together for SL happen.

we could always gather the NJ/NY/PA for a meet-up at the Jersey Shore.. (my suggestion is Point Pleasant Beach).

things about the boardwalk:
-arcades
-rides
-bars
-beach/jetty
-nearby shopping (includes a few antique stores)
-nearby diner
-plenty of hotels/motels
-good eatin
-and of course, it's the area i live in ;)

but yeah, i would support a CON as well as all the meet-ups people are talking about. i think these gatherings will serve to strengthen SL's community... not to mention they would be lots of fun!!
