What Kinds of Events Do You Enjoy?

Hi everyone!

I've got something up my sleeve that I think you might enjoy and find quite useful. But first, a question. Without turning this into a rant about the lack of event support, I want to know what kinds of events people enjoy the most. If you attend a specific kind of event, what features or activities make it the most enjoyable? Contests? Money balls? Auctions? Games? If you frequently run events, what sort of activities do you find yourself organizing the most often, and what do you think makes your event the most successful?

None.
If anything, I enjoy private events where I already know most people :)

I like attending events where I get to see the creativity of others. "Show and Tell" or contests for building, avatars, etc. I think those great for sparking inspiration, they're good for newbies so they can see in one place at one time alot of what SL is about (from the creative view point), and they're good for meeting people if you are more into meeting content creators than club dwellers.

Any events focused on creating or socializing outside of a sexually focused environment are interesting events to me.

Private "events" where you just hang out and chat with the people you know? What sort of things do you like to do with your friends, Eggy? :D

Creative games. I got real sick of Tringo in less than a day. Not to say that Tringo isn't creative, it's just repetitive. Just not enough variety for me. One thing I enjoyed, for example, is kickboxing down at the Ice Dragon. I still keep a lookout for the next kickboxing match, they're a lot of fun. I don't really prefer social events that much, because sometimes it seems kinda awkward. I guess it just seems like you get to know more people better when you compete with them.

I'm so wierd... :-P

Not weird at all! How many ways have you found to compete with others in Second Life, besides boxing?

Well, some of the racing is fun. Bingo is great, when I'm feeling like an old person *gasp*, and some of the gambling has been good times too.

I'd still have to say, however, the most impressive genre I've played on SL is the fighting. I can only hope for some rockin' FPS innovations to come in the future, because I'm a serious Half-Life freak.

i like to play tringo sometimes.

i attend, and host show and tells. they're my favourite type of event.

trivia events are fun if i know anything at all about the subject.

educational events are nice if i know nothing, or very little, about the subject.

primtionary is fun too. the fact is, though, i spend most of my inworld time chatting and building.

Wouldnt you like to know! :D
Hanging out is fine by me. I've been chatting online for over 10 years and I still enjoy a good conversation with a fun or intelligent person. Preferrably both :)
Sure, I can play games. Go read the "Forum Nomic" thread in Off-Topic, it sounds like something you would enjoy.
Money balls are just silly. Auction events? That's news to me. I hardly ever buy anything.
Ultimately, events are a social activity, so it's all about the people.
Something I have learned in a lifetime of RL party throwing is that my house may suck and the food may be crappy (I do the cooking after all!), but if you know how to pick your crowd, the party will be remembered forever.

Aye, I really wish I didn't have to leave, so I could memorize Chinatown, but alas. There's this first life I've got too, and apparently first takes precedence to second. :(

This thread isn't about a particular event. It's a general discussion about what kinds of activities people enjoy. Quit bustin' my chops! :)

I like Primtionary, 10 prim contests and texturing contests because they are a fun way to pit creative skills against others without having to "sell stuff".

I like Musical Starzz. God knows why, as my fps is terrible (2 max most of the time) but it's chaotic fun.

I like Yahtzee because I play too much Yahtzee in RL.

I like Bingo because of the camaraderie during the game - in fact, it made me go out and play RL bingo every week now :P

I like Tringo because of the mental challenge.

I like Taggy's Free Money events because it's fun to walk around and play her current games and then be surprised by a sudden L$50 windfall in your lap.

I like Blackjack - especially Tony Tigereye's table because he got the user interface just perfect...

Hey Jade, you know I am yours and your library's biggest fan (well, except for Torley), but I gotta say, you're sounding dangerously like a Linden up there with that "I've got something up my sleeve [but I'm not going to tell you what it is yet]" stuff!

(And I'd make one of those winking smilies here so you know this post is meant in the best of humors, except you know how much I hate them.)

Do tell!

I like creative events and contests (like Show n' Tell) and also trivia contests. When I hosted events, I would mostly host specific trivia. Trivia gives the opportunity for everyone to be able to win a few L$, while the creative events helps people find inspirations. Many times I would create items only to show them off at a Show n' Tell. I have a creative event idea that I have been meaning to try, but I am still trying to figure out how to make it work.

I like interesting events. Not sure what that is yet, but I know it when I see it. Does that help? :p

Build events! I love entering in build contests, or even just attending them. There are definitely NOT enough build events going on! Other than that I enjoy the fishing tournaments and eclectic classes (like Brace Coral's African mask/texturing/culture classes). And yes, I admit it! I do like playing tringo every once in a while. :o

EDIT: I just remembered, I went to a poetry read/contest that ended up being a LOT of fun!

Competition
02-11-2005 07:58
The event we have been enjoyed hosting is basically taking two teams and competing. Of course we are calling it Survivor, but it is a competitive event. Also BZ Beach is developing a sports league that will be a team competition series.

Seeing the same people come back each night ready for their next challenge is like watching a good show on TV where you cant wait for the next episode or knowing the names of the players on your favorite major sport team.

But I guess if your not on the team or have any friends on the team, coming to watch as a spectator may be boring for some in SL. Does not draw crowds like naked AVs do, but those who come enjoy it.

We have discovered alot of very creative competitive events in SL in our search. They may not be the big headline news in SL like a big sim build or dance club, but for the ones who particpate and attend - its alot of fun.

Hmm.

Once I participated in a Protoss march. We all dressed up in robot avs and marched from a certain area all the way to the Welcome Area, shouting "Join Us!" and "My life for Aiur!" periodically. We also would accost people (in a nice way) we saw on the way.

I remember once we barged in on a "Mommy" party where all these people were holding cooing babies. No one paid us the slightest bit of attention (actually, it was a smidgen too weird for even Protoss robots).

One of my best SL experiences to date.

I'd go to the snail races more if the people there weren't so dead (meaning no one would make any sort of conversation).

One guideline I might offer you is to strip the event bare of any relevance whatsoever. I like nonsensical events and hangout events: offer an absurd activity and the conversation will follow! :D
