Ah, give it a healthy codswallop of time... you aren't going to have an accurate "average" anyway until you've been in SL for like, 5 years. *grins*

I dunno, it bugs me too, but that's just cos it seems so ineffectual. Sure we can sit and argue that it doesn't hurt anything, but it doesn't really help anything either? Especially when you're downloading the full client and there've only been four changes in the release notes. Things like the rounded edges and the change to the red bars and fixing the button on release land, while all welcome (minus the rounded edges, what's the point of that again?), could have waited for a CULMULATIVE patch instead of on big ole download twice a day for two weeks.

pffpt.

For the millionth time, broadband is no excuse to be inefficient.

That's why we're running on a version of Windows that, if Microsoft had put their minds to it, could've run smoothly on a 486. It's the old argument "but you've got all that processing power, why bother being efficient?" that slows everything down!

It's all about return on investment.

I imagine this is a business decision. The company has a certain amount of human resources which are tasked to various things. They must allocate these resources in such a way as to acheive maximum profit. At this time there is little financial motivation to change their existing system .. when the client gets a bit larger and more cumbersome to download, I am sure they will upgrade their infrastructure to reflect this.

In the meaintime, it isn't really a major issue I wouldn't think ... so why change it?

I wouldn't.

Taggy's exactly right. There are plenty of little things like that in SL -- things that could probably be implemented better, but that simply aren't worth the effort in the end. "Why isn't this fixed!?", the eternal cry on the forums. Simple: it's not worth the cost of fixing it. I'd much rather see them focus on rewriting the server and client so they don't suck quite as badly... which, I believe, is the actual wording the roadmap uses. ;)
