The 'void sims' have been around a while now, and those that are directly affected by them (ie, those who live in the neighbouring sims) have had time to get to know them. How do you feel about them now? Have they brought you more traffic to your business? Have they caused more lag? Have they truely affected how you travel around SL, particularly to nearby sims? How, in your opinion, do the pros wear against the cons of the void sims? Discuss

I'm a Vehicle person.. I Love to Fly/Boat/Drive around our little world. There was nothing that ticked me off more than having to take a 4+ sim detour because the destination you were trying to reach was 1 diagnal sim away with voids blocking the way. I think that actually making these was a great thing for manual travel alone. I cant comment on whethwer or not it improved business for me personally because my home sim is not bordered by any of them. None the less, I love them, Especially around the vehicle park. No more ramming invisible walls when you dont turn fast enough.

They are nice, however... They need to be Color-ed differently in the map. Like... Know when the map squares are all still loading, and they're that cloudy grey color? I used to be able to opem my map, drag my map around and find Seacliff, and teleport there before my map even loaded, just by the location and position of "empty space". Now I have to wait for loading to finish entirely before I can find anything. This is slightly irritating. The mass-swarm of sims makes everything look the "same". Or maybe they should just load the map faster somehow.

well...
i have never been a vehicle person..at all.. could not drive a land vehicle or fly a plane.
still cant. but i have a few beaches on void sims and suddenly i am a sailor. been exploring different waterways to different destinations. taking freinds on cruises is a blast. i can crash into a headland and dump people in a bayou with the best of them.
i had no idea there was a con to the void sims. seems all good to me.

From: Moleculor Satyr Or maybe they should just load the map faster somehow. Yeah, maybe a specifiable setting for caching the map or a button to force "Live Update" when desired. The map's not going to change THAT much in the space of a few minutes

Hmm, I dont know about having them diplayed a different colour on the map, that would ruin the whole "contigious land" feel that we have, which I enjoy. But I agree that they do make places a little harder to find by removing the familiar gaps we used as reference.
Perhaps they could have a different background colour (so that when the grey loding texture appears it has a different coloured background, until the image of the sim loads properly)
Void sims are very much a part of SL now, and we know that many more sims will be bleessed/cursed with a voidsim neighbouring them soon. Are there any things in particular you would suggest/warn people in these soon-to-be-voided sims of?

I love the void sims. I want LL to give us some buildable ones to experiment with!

The map's not going to change THAT much in the space of a few minutes I like this option a lot! It reminds me of the photo Second Life takes as you log out. When you log back in the next time, that photo is displayed until you are back in completely. The map should work this way too. Whenever you open the map it should just display the last version of the map you looked at with a thermometer-like indicator (like when you log in) that the map is updating. You can see right away where you want to go. If you keep the map window open long enough, when it's ready, the map will refresh and the indicator will go away.

I like the void sims. They make it much nicer to get somewhere, faster as well, and I can avoid some laggy sims by going through them. Uh, not sure. Not sure on this one either. Not really, other than when they're available and where I'm going, might have made it so I actualy fly more rather than teleport. Pros = Good, cons = not so bad. Pros win.

All hail voids! I've always hated having to fly around corners of empty space, or staring out into a sea of water I can't sail in. I think they should be everywhere there is space between public sims. I'm now able to sail between my home in Clementina and business in Bodega Before the void sims I didn't even realize how close they were geographically.

As SL residents, how would you feel if certain Sims, that although classed as mainland sims (ie, land ownership rules are the same as other mainland sims) such as Elysian Island (?) or Avalon were joined to the main grid via void sims?
This question also goes out to residents of those sims.

IF LL improves the handoffs of vehicles flying/moving from sim to sim, then I would be estatic about void sims connecting EVERYTHING.. regardless of island status or mainland status.
I would especially like it if there were some really interesting landscaping in a few of these void sims.... like a canyonland sim to fly, drive or boat through enroute another destination.

This question also goes out to residents of those sims. Eh, the island sims should stay island sims. However, I wouldn't have too much problem with someone wanting to buy a sim that was connected to the mainland only through a void sim, with the option of switching that sim on and off. That'd be interesting.

Pituca and I have always wanted a sim connected to the main grid, but that we could terraform as we wished, FairChang Island is the best we could get.
As to joining private sims with the main grid using void sims. I would love it.
Imagine a voyage in a sailing boat or flying there in a plane. That would be great. Also doing a voyage around SL. WOW

Crap! I took my haitus just as the test void sims came on -- how long have I been gone now?
BTW I'm planning on returning in December - The elections are over, but ratings still remain....
Siggy.

This question also goes out to residents of those sims. I like the idea, but I don't own an island. I would assume part of the lure of owning your own is to be separated from the rest of the world. I think this could be really cool, but the island owners should have the option to stay separate from the main grid, if they are so inclined.

I think the void sims are fantastic, I have wanted these for so long. For me, they make SL more immersive, no more flying round corners from my home in Taber and now and then to see a boat scooting across the water is great.
But why stop at water? I want to see void sims representing deserts, mountain ranges, everglades style swamp and dense forest or jungle. It helps to break up the geography and gives some much needed variety.
