Just wondering where people tend to meet the best of their SL friends... and by friends I don't mean the one that wanted to take you into the VIP room at some club and swap IM's about what he's touching right now. :)

Most of them I've met as a result of hanging out at The Shelter or while shopping or just gadding about the metaverse.

Is SL so different from RL? People you work with, and friends of friends :)

Is it so different from RL? Well yes, actually it is. I'd much rather enter a club in RL than one in SL. :) I don't have coworkers in SL. I tried talking to Goddess Athena today but she just keeps staring at that damn helmet of hers.

Welcome Area in Ahern, or just flying around, or through friends of friends, etc.

WA in Ahern I would say is a fun place to meet new friends.

Well, Stormy, I think it depends on the RL clubs you enter.

I've gone into a banger clubs that I ended up regretting pretty bad (my GF and I were dressed pretty preppy at the time - whups).

I went to a gay club accidentally once and after the initial amusement of all the gay guys hitting on me, it got pretty old - fast.

Similarly, in SL if you go to the wrong clubs for you, you will no doubt regret it. Conversely, if you go to a place you fit in (like a furry at a furry club?) it'll be lots of fun.

That being said, I hang out at Ahern and just greet people when they show up and get into conversations. Meet lots of people that way.

Another way is just to hang out and be friendly with people who are exploring. I bet if you opened up yours and starax's store for explorers, I bet you guys would meet lots of admirers :)

HAHAHA!

I met some of my good friends in SL by being neighbours to them. Others by being interested in things they make and striking up conversations about them. I meet alot of people that way actually, I'm constantly seeing new things that amaze me being made by players.

Interesting you should bring this up blaze. At the risk of airing dirty laundry, there is no "Starax and me" anymore, and I wasted a year up his butt so far that I never made any other friends in SL, which brings about this question. I don't even know what people do to socialize in SL other than what I read here, so it's why I ask. I have a need to fill that large gap in my "SL" now since, for the last yr, it's been all about him. It's difficult logging in now, and very quiet. I suppose I could say "I'm a newbie again."

I'll rez my sexballs and sheep, and attach my dance braclet. Come on over! And afterwards, when we are all sweaty and sticky, in a virtual sense, we can go play Tringo! :p

/cringes, knowing April is gonna thwap him for that one.

/tries the pity approach again

Clio is my only friend!! *huddles in corner and giggles insanely*

*hugs stormy*

I met people from events like Burning Life. It required alot of personal involvement, not just an event where you wear something and pop in for 15 minutes. Also ... I don't have a chance to attend them myself, but I'm sure Resident-hosted building contests/events is a good place to mingle with other builders.

I also encountered lots of folks from just standing around in a sandbox and building. Or changing clothes, "window" shopping. Hanging out in the Welcome Area would be a nice break as well.

Getting a social bunny to adopt you will help too. And if our paths cross in SL, feel free to say hi to me. I think you're an awesome builder. :)

You know, this is interesting.

I meet a lot of people I enjoy being very friendly with playing Bingo, and the like.

But the truth is, both here and in TSO, I have always made my best friendships when people come to my place and hang around. I usually feel closer to them, somehow.

Which brings up a conundrum. I probably shouldn't have complained about Nexus's land showing up in Find Property under for sale for $0.

I live in Andromeda, which is an island, different from where we in Nexus's group used to live, and I have only very lately come to understand that (a) you can't necessarily fly off a private island (at least the other one I tried to fly off of once, it couldn't be done) and (b) nobody flies over or drops in!

Those people dropping in I made friends with when it was listed as $0, that was an aberration! No one has dropped in on my house since, though I have met some others on different parts of the Sim. And I imagine it will stay that way until Nexus has some way to advertise his island. (Not sure about that; don't know how these things work.)

But anyway, that means this may not be the best place for me. Very disturbing. I really don't want to be, you know, "remote". I want to be able to meet peoplewho come by my house.

Thanks for the friendly responses. I was half expecting to get flamed or shamed by someone for talking about my personal bussiness. :)
