Second Life 1.5.8-Preview Dec 8, 2004 =====================================
- The SL installer is smarter and does not delete misc files inside the SL installation directories.
- Fixed a client crash when saving a gesture.
- Added an option in Preferences to hide your active group title.
- Increased number of options for llDialog() from 4 to 12.
- Hover tips over land and objects have rounded corners.
- Chat text console has a transparent gray background with rounded corners.
- Fixed a memory leak in the simulator physics engine.
- When dragging objects from one inventory window to another the source window no longer scrolls when the object is dropped at its destination.
- Login background image no longer stretches when changing the aspect ratio of the SecondLife window.
- When you pay an object or person in busy mode, a dialog pops up asking if you want to leave busy mode. Note: when in busy mode inventory offers will be automatically refused, so buying objects in busy mode may cause those objects to be undelivered.
- Web links of the form secondlife://SimName/X/Y now properly select the simulator in the drop-down combo box on the World Map. Note: if SimName has a space in it then the link will work correctly if the spaces are replaced with %20. For instance "Sim Name" would be done as: secondlife://Sim%20Name/X/Y.
- Buying a unique object on land that is set to autoreturn will no longer cause the unique object to be immediately returned to inventory.
- Changed max size of script edit buffer from 32k to 64k. It's now the same size as the notecard edit buffer.
- Fixed some text corruption in the Groups --> Money --> Planning user interface widget.
- Fixed rendering and physics of large square holes in spheres and cylinders.
- When deeding a group to land the user interface now properly updates and reflects the changes to your max contribution.
- Editing the position/rotation/contents of an object that is receiving constant updates from the servers is now possible in most cases.
- llGetNextEmail() now invokes no sleep penalty. Note: the rate at which emails can be downloaded is limited by the period between a successful llGetNextEmail() call and the corresponding email() event, (from 1 to three seconds). There is no reason to poll faster than that, however there is no penalty if you do. For best results, call llGetNextEmail() at some descheduled rate (every 5 seconds or longer) then call llGetNextEmail() again at the end of the the email() event if (and only if) there are more pending emails in the queue.
- Plugged the collisionless avatar exploit.

They made script windows able to hold 64K of text like notecards, instead of 32K. That is very helpful to me.

All is good and dandy from what I seen but: 1) The bloody non-stop damping resizing oval thing when people chat is annoying. 2) llDialog's button possitions seem a little backwards.. would make since to have the first element of the list be the first button on the top line

- Plugged the collisionless avatar exploit.
WooHoo! Now I get to spend 10 minutes trying to find the door on massive builds that haven't fully come into view yet, but still trap me inside while flying to a destination. I know this was a "bug / exploit," but I considered it a fairly helpful feature while it lasted. And on a side note, sucks for anyone that paid money to use this. (Saw an object implementing the exploit for sale somewhere for 500 bucks). The code was in the script forums for free.

"Plugged the collisionless avatar exploit."
Is that the "Ghosting" script where you can fly through (almosy) anything? man that was really usefull, actually. Like omen said, it is easy to get trapped inside still rezzing objects.
Were there people that really hated this "bug"?

Yes, I absolutely hated it. This is why whenever I build buildings (which is not often, I am a mediocre builder at best) I always make them easy to go in and out of -- either having the walls ghosted or no walls at all. My windows are ALWAYS ghosted.

Were there people that really hated this "bug"? Yeah that was it. And yes, was very useful in my eyes too. Made flying around more enjoyable and less of a hassle. It wasn't the kind of thing that just happened to me once in a great while (getting stuck), it was more like 4 out of every 5 times teleporting and flying somewhere, I'd end up hostage for a while. At least until all those textures showed up on screen and I could actually navigate my way out (though sometimes, not even that helped inside unfinished or confusing builds). And it was never any good just teleporting out of there (unless it was home or somewhere I hadn't intended on going), because: "Sorry, cannot teleport any closer than you already are" or the topper... "Sorry, teleport is currently blocked" Heh. If they want realism on here with objects keeping true physical properties to them (no poltergeisting through walls), then they need to go ALL THE WAY. Meaning... If I plant some primitive C4 on a wall, it NEEDS to come crumbling down in the explosion. lol Owell. What can ya do.

Chat Text Background Makes Game Unusable
12-08-2004 20:09
Is this how the chat text looks to other people? Like smoked glass covering the view of the world?
If this is how it's going to be I guess I will have to find something else to do than be in SL.

I think the new smoke-glass chat is fine, but if people don't like it, make it an option.

I personaly like it, but also think it should more than likely be an option.
Also is that background editable in colors.ini? It seems not to be, would be nice if it was (as well as its transparency). Then you could simply set the background to be completely transparent and not even see it.

Jesus Christ. Don't tell me LL is adding another whizz-bang UI gimmick and not making it optional.
I still hate 1.5's zoom.
MAKE. IT. OPTIONAL.

You mean I'll be able to sort my inventory again without spending most of the time scrolling back to where I was? *sobs with joy*

From: Alondria LeFay Someone likes comments... Do you know how LOOOONG those vehicle parameter names are?!? It's like... llSetVehicleFloatParam(INCREDIBLY_LONG_VEHICLE_FLAG_NAME, 1.0); Add to that the fact that the editor represents tab stops as spaces instead of \t... so if your line is indented seven times, it doesn't count as sevent tab characters, it counts as 35 spaces! It adds up...

From: Hank Ramos Plugged the collisionless avatar exploit. That was rather retarded of them... Fixing that without fixing the problem of being able to fly across a sim boundry and become completely stuck in some random wall. It doesn't have to be a still rezzing wall, it can be a wall you're staring at and you slowly fly across the border. BAM you're halfway stuck inside it until you teleport out or log off. I'm pretty sure I reported that bug before people were actively exploiting the collisionless avatar bug. Priorities please?

That was a very usefull feature. -Adam

If this is how it's going to be I guess I will have to find something else to do than be in SL. That's going to be bloody annoying once I start doing serious scripting in 1.5.8 -- I'll be looking at the world through a permanent smoked-glass window of debugging statements.
