We need more trees and natural settings in Second Life. I fly over endless tracks of wasteland with nothing on them except malls and tringo parlors and it is like something out of a horror science fiction movie. I've noticed that the first thing many people do when buying land is to clear off the trees and then fill the land with their build which may be beautiful in their eyes I guess.
I assume that most Second Life members are Americans with the "by god it's my land I can do whatever I want to with it" attitude but I wouldn't mind if this included replanting some of the trees that were so wantonly destroyed.
For my own part I am putting my money where my mouth is and just purchased a 8096 sm plot which will remain 99% trees.

Often land gets cleared of trees to build something, which is later torn down and the land sold. Once the trees are removed its hard to put them back and get any kind of natural look.
I've bought beautiful land at auction and found a gadget on the land called a "tree planter". Obviously, Linden uses a scripted object to scatter trees about a sim when it is newly made. I wonder if we could borrow one of those to re-tree our land...

ehehe while i understand the issue i highley suggest NOT planting trees for resale. plant trees for youself is fine. but when you plant trees for resale the next buyer will return them for their build and you will have the "green screen of death" hehe just a heads up!
there is a linden tree planter they use, correct.
there are player versions which do the same thing as well, so you dont need to bother with asking a linden!

I may not have made my point correctly. I am not talking about grooming land for sale. I am speaking of planting trees on land to make it look nice and nothing more. I am working my butt off right now planting trees on land that I will probably never sell. Why you may ask? Because I like trees better than strip malls and slingo parlors. Not all land has to turn a profit. There is such a thing as esthetic value.

As little as three to five nice trees per 512m plot makes a world of difference. In this case, a little goes a lot further than none.

I placed aprox 6 trees and a few small bush objects a few days ago, and it made the whole plot look much better... I really reccomend a few trees to everyone who has the space...

I would love to see more trees to Susie. I hope some will see this and think about adding more trees to there land. It really does make the land look nicer. I have some trees on my land. And yes trees are nicer to look at than strip malls!
BTW I had fun dancing with you at the WA… lol

I am all for more trees! They are low prim, looks great and help fill up empty spaces. I am still working on the garden of my house - but already plenty of trees!
If you have the space, and a few prims to spare - go on, add a tree or two - they do make land look much nicer.

maybe if the linden trees didn't have that sucky horrible ugly LOD degredation, where far away it looks like a sprite.
And where are the prim based trees? not the ugly texture ones... I mean actual prim organic looking trees...
There seem to be only a few people that have ever made such things... and only one person sells some... and because she is the only one and with only a few types, they can be so easily overused.

Trees are good! Come to the NE corner of Zazi, where I've used nothing but Linden trees to give (what I consider to be) a nice country feel to the place. It also has a stone row of the type you'd find on Dartmoor. I run Primtionary there at 2PM most days; it's also the continent corner so there's nothing unpleasant to look at in most directions.
The key with trees is: don't just make 10 identical copies of the same tree. Rotate them, resize them, tilt them a little according to the lie of the land and the prevailing wind(?). Rotating especially makes them look more natural when viewing from a distance.

trees and natural landscaping do indeed look great in SL. i appreciate every sq.m. of it; however, keep in mind.. most people buy land so they can build their own place..
Susie, i think it's awesome that you're keping almost a whole 8096 plot naturalized. let us know where and when to come take a look.. will it be an SL park? reserve? forest? other?
Ps - i have a particle emitting, 100-prim (or so) alien looking tree i made a while back... lol

I was attempting to spruce up the landscaping on my land this morning, and I felt the same way. In my home sim, something like 90% of the trees present were planted by myself or at my behest. However, I trees are still too limited for my liking. I would like for a way to link and script trees, so that I can change my landscaping more easily. Also, I would like to see even more new trees. The newest trees are phenomenal, but the older ones leave a lot to be desired.
I've attached my most recent build, which focuses on trees.

I agree! More trees!
I have several all over my plot in Mallard... and I planted one very large one as well.

Prim trees exist. They take LOTS of prims. Hence, most people arent willing to spend, oh... 1024 meters worth of land to rez one or two trees.

I am pleased and surprised at the positive posts here by tree fans like me. Maybe there is hope after all I would love to open up my land as a park for people to come and picnic on but due to the large number of griefer attacks on Susieland I have to keep it restricted for now.

I always go for the principle. (And try to convince the neighbours.) If you have 'primland' (land just for the prim allotment somewhere else in sim), plant some linden trees on them! They'll only cost a few prims, and otherwise those spots are usually just empty places...
So i say it again. Have primland? Take a small effort and rez a few trees.

Hence, most people arent willing to spend, oh... 1024 meters worth of land to rez one or two trees. Yup - I have created some but have actually had newer people who bought them ask for their money back because they did not have enough prims on their land to have one of my prim trees and their house too. I have been playing a bit and have come up with a couple that are around 12 prims, where the trunk and branches are prim based but the leafy part of the tree is still texture based. They are still between 12 and 16 prims each though. .

I want to thank daz Groshomme for dedicating his land in Sand to trees. His land, Melissa's King's land and my land make a total of 10,000 square meters smack dab in the middle of Sand dedicated to trees and parkland. I sure won't be offended if other people in Sand do the same with their land.

SpeedTree may help a lot, both in improving the variety and quality of trees to choose from, and by extension, in improving the likelihood that someone will opt to plant trees on their property. At least, I'm hoping so. neko

If any of you are referring to or have seen Fleabite Beach's wonderful hundreds-prim trees...
