After long hours of building and toiling over this project, I finally finished building my item, the Alphaomega box. I slaved night and day to build this. As soon as I start selling it, an avatar whose name shall be withdrawn, began to copy it PRIM by PRIM! Now, as I fly all around Second Life, I see my object being used by a great amount of residents in SL. What's worse is that he started selling it in his store. I have sent him a letter to stop selling the item and for money to recompensate for my loss. Now, everyone in SL is copying my object and it's almost impossible to stop the spread of plagarism of my object. I hope this never happens to you. See pic for more details of my object that was stolen.

Sorry bud, I have screen captures dated back to March of '03 of me not only standing next to that exact prim but even with it attached to my head so *I* not only demand royalties on the prim design but it's texture, flavor, and distinctive 'clunk' sound when turned physical and dropped to the ground. I furthermore demand that any 'hat' or facial area jewelry designers also owe for usage of the idea of prims attached to heads. (See above 'prim attached to head (n00b)' evidence.) Ilianexsi: Right-click and 'Save Picture' or hold down your singular mouse button on the pic if you're a macophile to preserve that wonderful animated gif... been a while since I've seen that one. no, no it won't stop. If you have a good idea someone will copy your idea. An idea is not something you can copyright.
Hence why Im not ripping out certain people's throats over near identical products to my own. But they know who they are, and they either dont care, or they are incapable of original thought. Either way I pitty them. And it's really nice to sit back and know deep inside, that you have ideas so other people don't have to. If it is in fact your work being distributed, then that's another story entirely and you are entitled to take action against it. |

Atmos, this is indeed a chilling story. I hope that the lindens shall hear your cries for justice and handle this situation as soon as possible.
Your situation have forced me to stop my work on a current ongoing project and try to think of a possible copy-protection solution. This will delay the release of my product for awhile, perhaps even months, but until then, here is a sneak-peak of the Release Candidate beta for those of you who are curious! |

We all laugh, but this is what's currently happening in the software world, and has been for some time...
It's a little known fact that BT (The UK's largest phone company) tried to patent the hyperlink, and then tried to charge royalties for it's use... I'm not kidding, it's true. In software there is a difficult line to draw over what is raw materials and what is a unique, finished idea. This thread may have started with someone trying to patent a prim, but how far must you go before a prim is a unique product? Let's just hope that this kind of annoying overly legal situation never overtakes SL. Because of the Lindens' wise permissions, this doesn't seem to be likely to happen in the near future. I hope it never does. Real life is bad enough. |

Well, It wasn't me who built it! It wasn't! I had no involvelent! My scripts are for sale so he probably bought it and put it in the palgerized item! So what if its called Square by Corn & Plagerizer! Thats what i would do to cover my ass too! I'm not selling it at my shop! Oh, wait. Where did that classidied ad come from?
