Trip negged by a first day alt

I'm usually too kind to merit someone neg-rating me. I try to leave my fustrations at the login for this MMO system. I also do not peruse much in the mature places etc, old school kinda guy, and will listen to complaints.

This all fits in to my wanting to be Mentor or Instructor-type, as I like helping people.

I am going to try this one more time.

Does NO ONE see anything strange about an account simply not existing in the Find>People database after they give a neg rating?

If you don't find it strange, am I extrapolating possibilites for abuse that don't exist - much more potentially detrimental to SL as we know it than a mere triple-neg? No one else sees the possibility that things can be sabotaged by an account that is not traceable?

Note: I'd post the name of the avatar here so that someone else could verify what I know, but the TOS doesn't allow it.

Korg, although I've disagreed with you in the past, I can't stand alt-neg rating. Report it as abuse, cite who you suspect, and ask that Linden Lab check the credit card numbers and see if the person is connected to both.

It sucks, but bottom line at least the whole system is in process to be overhauled.

FYI I am a mentor and instructor My negs all came from the same person, on various alts, all the same day.Having neg ratings does not speak of one's kindness or lack thereof, only which psycho's path you may have crossed. The system is fundamentally, irrepairably flawed.

There is supposedly a glitch that results in names not being found with the find option. I have seen it mentioned half a dozen times in various posts.

Well said. The numbers don't add up, and good people superbly overshadow any such -1 marks with their personality, which speaks louder than any trivial malice.

Another problem I see, is not just the rating system itself, but how people are informed of how it's used and what its limits are. I do know some people will rate anyone in exchange for getting a rating back -- reciprocity -- but does this not nullify the intended purpose of the system?

In the long-term anyway, I would think one gets to know who is nice, and who is... well, a psycho. The cumulative effects of repeated personal attacks make themselves more apparent than the supernatural on the X-Files

I've run into that a couple of times. I've just attributed it to a gremlin in the system.

I've attributed it to the neg person being abuse reported into oblivion... I just wish LL would go and undo the neg rates from people who get banned.

Let alone that no trial accounts should be allowed to rate. Period.

Also, the negs you have given to any discontinued accounts will disappear, as well. I had three neg rating points (that I had given out so long ago that I couldn't remember to whom I had given them) suddenly go *poof* and disappear this spring. I still have another three neg ratings I can't for the life of me remember which person I had given them to. I am guessing all six were from that horrid period in July/Aug. 2003 when the Lindens took the credit card requirement off the trial accounts, so we were overrun with 12-year-olds who thought it was hilarious to come into SL and grief.

It's odd, since this is the case, at least in my experience, that neg ratings from people who cancel accounts or get banned don't disappear from accounts still in existence. Why is this, Lindens?

If you are offline and are neg rated how do you know who did it? I have some neg ratings and don't know who did any of them, lol.

Korg, look on the bright side of things at least it was on ALT account and not 3. Also look at it as at least they werent an ex friend set on revenge by putting something out for free to copy that would defile your charature as a whole.

I am not the neg rater in this scenerio that you speak but look on those as badges of standing your ground against stupidity. Which unfortunately seems to run amuk in SL from time to time.

You are probably experienceg an issue I have seen in the find options for the user database. Just last night I was trying to TP in Donnie Donovan from outside my tower, and I know he was there, but I could not get him to come up in find. There is a problem with the way its querying the DB.

As far as ALT neg rating...I feel for ya man...had it happen to me once...can't prove a thing but it is worth an abuse report nonetheless. It's a spineless way to handle a situation, and I still ahve a bit of distaste for the act that occured to me. I do chalk it up to experience though...it thickened my skin a bit in regards to negative ratings...and quite frankly...they don't matter. It's also why I have never issued a neg rate. Id much rather tell someone why their a complete idiot, fool, or as Darko eloquently refers to some..."Fucktard". I get much more satisfaction of using something that will leave a lasting impression and relay my thoughts then a silly +1 in the negative column that will eventually be removed with a newer system anyways...
