OK this new thing for events is really making me angry. I have parcels, yes, BUT I was hosting Tringo Events in Le Cadre' and now I can't post them, because its not my parcel!!! I am extremely pissed off. No one else can post them, but Sensual Casanova and that is seriously UNFAIR! She isn't always on and now because of this STUPID event thing, Le Cadre's dwell is going to shit. If any Lindens can read this, please, let us post events again on parcels that we don't own. For some of us, that is our in game job and how we make our incomes.
Also the music thing...I am here in forums and in SL and I want to hear the music and other sounds. This crazy stuff you are doing to this game is making me wanna scream!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, PLEASE!

There are some good discussions going on regarding this issue in these threads: /130/5f/42575/1.html /110/d8/42657/1.html The way I see it - by making these changes the Lindens are only attacking a symptom of the problem, rather than the greater problem itself, which is: People are having trouble finding the events they want on the calendar because there are too many, and innovative events are getting lost in the shuffle.Event restrictions are not the answer. The way to solve this problem for everyone - is to drop all restrictions on events - let folks post whatever they want to the calendar, but focus enforcement on tying events to specific categories. Just provide the community with the tools to be able to filter out the events they don't want to see - and force event hosts to categorize.... and we will be much happier campers overall.

I have to say I totally agreee with you Lillyana!!! We "work" for the same place, and I manage the club we work at, how is it that I am supposed to do my "job" when i cant even post an event!!! We work out butts of, mind you it is fun work, but none the less, we are bustin ass, and this is comletely sqrewing us up!!Setting limitations of this kind is only going to make people unhappy and and even worse angry! why on earth would you set a limit on someone that they can only have 3 events a da???? For a mulit faseted parcel, there are more then 3 things to do , and usually more then 3 events a day! I personally am responsible for usually 2 a day and I know that there are other events that fall under someone elses responsibility!!! This is completely rediculous, and i read here a fabulous idea about filtering events, if youwant to reduce the ammount, DONT, but give a way for SL'ers to filter out the type of events that they dont want, or, leave it theway it was fgs!!! The changes being made, other then the event list and the music cutting off when you open another window I think are great, but this just takes the cake when you mess with our "in game" jobs!!!

I disagree. They've tried to let people police themselves, and they abused it so badly it led to what we have now. We shouldn't have to have a Linden working 'round the clock on the events calendar just so people don't post 20 nonsense events per day to whore for dwell. If people absolutely refuse to be adult and fair about how they game the system, then we can't cry foul when the choice is taken from us.

There is another reason they're doing this - it forces you to either buy the parcel or give people full access to the parcel.

The system is being gamed regardless - only now its even worse. Note the 12 events on the calendar today for the same club - mostly Tringo. If you look closely, you'll notice that they're all the same venue - just creatively different 512m parcels. What this latest round of restrictions has done - is allow the larger clubs to dominate because they own large amounts of land. My 4000m parcel just isn't big enough anymore. That's the problem with restrictions - no matter how thouough you think you are, it wont take long for someone to figure out a way to game them. Dropping the restrictions, and switching to a filter/category model - will not require more manhours on LL's part - it would require less. It would allow those who only want to see a calendar filled with classes & discussions - to see classes & discussions. Those that actually want Tringo - can see tringo. And everyone benefits from more choices because of it. I can't speak for anyone but myself - but I feel I've acted very much like an adult in posting events. I haven't attempted to game the system - I've posted events that were worthwhile, and not empty "dwell magnets".... yet I am just as penalized as folks who are probably worthy of your criticism.

I like this idea of categorizing events very much. I sometimes miss something I want to see - such as "free slots for an hour," among all the other things I'm looking at that I want to see, all of which are mixed in among the things I'm pawing through that I DON'T want to see, such as "Best Naked Bootie with Tattoo" contest.
I don't know what the categories would be exactly, but I think it would be better than this arrangement. I'm new, two months old, but I saw no problem BEFORE they made this change - i.e., the events page wasn't 17 pages long, was it.
Seems to me that this change is terrible foremost because only the owners can post an event, which really makes things harder for the people trying to hold and run them, or hire others to run them. And secondly, if the owners want the other people to be able to do the posting, they have to give them full land permissions, which seems an insane punishment - kind of like, I let my friends have full access to my fridge for a beer, but now, if I want to be able to let them get a beer, I have to give them full access to my bank account, too.
Then, too, the criticism that it just favors owners of large amounts of land makes sense to me, too.

Good points, Travis. It's always a shame when the innocent are punished along with the guilty, and I think the fact that LL keeps having to change the event listing rules is proof that the system will be gamed no matter how it's run. Even with things categorized as you suggest, there will be those who post their "Hiring Escort Free Vendor Space Only L$1000 LMFAO!!!one!" events in the wrong categories to get more attention to them. Whichever the most popular category is will be bombarded with every other type of event by the same people, and for the same reason people abuse the system now. I can't think of a way they could handle it that wouldn't be abused, and I hardly ever open the events calendar anymore anyway, so I don't have a lot of positive to offer on the matter. I just don't want to see it go from bad to worse. From: Travis Lambert The system is being gamed regardless - only now its even worse. I honestly don't think this will solve the problem, as the forums are still full of events. But that is my 2 cents.. They need to make a seperate event listing for games such as slingo tringo and bingo.. Or at least a filter like the mature events. That would help out alot more than this idea, as I have seen several small places struggling due to this change. It is unfair to those following the previous rules.

While I wish death upon Tringo, and I will dance on the graves of every Tringo parlour should they ever die (HAH!), I very much disagree with these new event posting changes. It would be one thing if it actually prevented GOOD events from mixing in with the slimy plague that is Tringo, however it does not seem to do that. I'd much rather see the 'Games' category being used and flooded with those ugly, ugly event postings so I didn't have to mix with them. That way, you can get your crappy Tringo dwell that will condemn your souls to hell, and it doesn't hurt the little guys.
Lindens, the fact that you need to own any land just to post an event is ridiculous. I specifically reserved the 2nd floor of my library so people could host events there, if they did not have their own place. Now they have to go through me as a buffer to do that, it's terrible.

I'm wondering....just how hard is it really to install filters or toggle on/off radio buttons to the in-world events list?
I've been screaming softly since November of last year for a revamp on events, and heck even suggested some ways for certain options. One of my suggestions FINALLY got officially shot down last month, but that's ok - it was worth a try.
But on the more important issues like (what I THINK would be fairly simple to implement) ie filters and toggles have never been replied to.
I was told that there was going to be some wonderful new feature installed soon to help adress some of the issues I raised. If this new feature is it, well quite frankly I'm extremely disappointed.
KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid
Great rule to follow. Maybe its REALLY complicated to make filters and whatnot - who knows? I'm not a SL tech geek. But this new feature has not been thought through in my opinion. Based on the posts I read in this thread, it seems to me that nobody even took into consideration HOW BUSINESSES AND SUBSEQUENT EVENTS IN SL ARE EVEN RUN.
There is interraction, there are people collaborating, there are people offering their land for events for those who don't have land, there are people hiring others to throw events on their land or sims etc etc. The FLOW of how things are DONE in SL. This new feature takes NONE of that into consideration. And as some have posted, this new system is already being gamed with the result of the events list looking exactly the same.
Example: I had been working with someone to teach classes in a venue other than my own land for MONTHS and when it finally all came together I was told that in order to post the event I had to join the group the sim was set to.
OK seem simple, but then again I am more than a little bit bothered that I have to use one of my group slots simply to post an event.
Basically this "solution" is causing more problems instead of solving them. Every time this issue is brought up there are cries for filters and on/on toggles. Here we are again. I have a suggestion: lets try the filter/toggle thing. Implement that next time you want to "fix" the events calendar.
I can't get worse, and heck it might actually WORK. You've managed to filter out the mature events from the events listing on this website. soooooo just extend that idea for the existing categories inworld - Classes, General Fun etc.
OR: if this type of thing is IMPOSSIBLE to do - I'd LOVE a clear, concise and cogent explanation as to why. Heck make it garbled and full of tech-speak. Just give us something to go on. I'm as confused as everyone else why such a seemly simple set of features can't and hasn't been implemented.

I put on my whiny baby hat tonight, and had a chat with Deana Linden about this issue. I still have a really bad taste in my mouth from the knee-jerk changes LL implemented, last July. At any rate, I am cross-posting my other rant. /110/d8/42657/3.html#post458281Well done, Linden Labs. Not.

I have this sinking feeling that even if Robin & Jeff had an epiphany, realized the futility of event restrictions, and the benefit of filters & categories became evident - the neccesary dev time would put us into Summer before we had them. I can't wait until Summer. I need relief right now. So maybe its in our best interest to be thinking of alternative suggestions in the mean time just in case the final solution (filters) just isn't technically feasable in the short term. Some ideas I had: 1. Rollback the changes. (Probably not very attractive to LL) 2. Make the following changes: a. Change the event "blackout" from every 24 hours to every 23.99 - to fix the "recurring events at the same time every day can't be posted" problem. b. Raise the maximum number of events per day to 6. c. Limit the 6 events per day to *per sim* rather than *per parcel*. Yes this sucks in a different way. But how else could you keep it fair & prevent gaming? d. Allow us to designate "authorized" event hosts for our parcels without groups. e. Institute a process where a Liason can "fix" events for us - such as when an event needs to genuinely be deleted, or the time needs to be changed due to a sim crash. Comments, anyone? My guess is 'c' is going to be pretty controversial. But if you disagree, please offer up a viable alternative to keep it constructive

I endorse your suggestions, Travis. In addition, I changed one of my votes on the Propositions board so that I could vote in favor of this related proposition: Prop: 23 - Add search and display capability to events calendar

Rollback the changes
Let residents police the event calendar
Have a policy of repeat offenders on the event calendar will face being banned from SL
This is how ebay works, and it works suprisingly well.
